Rear wiper noise on return sweep

Featured Replies

Hi, the rear wiper on my wife's 2003MY Polo has started making a noise - she says "has it?" It sweeps "out" okay with no noise but on the "return" sweep it makes an almost ratchetting noise (clicking). Nothing externally is loose and the shaft bear seems okay - does anyone know if this is a common problem and does it mean replacing the complete motor assembly. I've looked on ETOS and that car is lucky enough to have the earlier Valeo motor assembly as opposed to the later one.

I've had a quick look on "search" and it does throw up "replaced rear wiper motor" as an age related item but with no hint as to what failed in the motor assembly.

Well it seems that what is causing this is exactly what has gone wrong with all the other recent "rear wiper washer" threads OPs. I have just had a look at the washer nozzle and it point down when the wiper is parked - I think that means I really do need to buy one of the repair kits!

Just to close off this thread, I have now fitted the correct Polo 9N version of the repair kit to the rear wiper as its as good as new.
