noise when starting car

Featured Replies

apologies if I've posted in the wrong place...

just been to look at a 54 plate Octavia VRs today

started first time but was noisy for a few seconds, sales fella said they all do it until they warm up a little?

the car has a lpg conversion, not sure if it'd make any difference as it starts up on petrol

any ideas guys or is he bull***ting me

It has a comprehensive service history, last owner didn't scrimp by the looks of it.

yes they all do it. Secondary air system runs for about 90 seconds at cold start up to warm up the cat. revs sit at 1200ish till the pumps stops then drop back.

thanks for that, was a tad concerned but over it now :)

roll on Wednesday, can't wait to have a good run out in her...

Yes the secondary air pump does make a sound for 90 seconds but if it sounds like a plane taking off like mine did take a look at this easy, very cheap fix

Step-by-step guide for repairing the Secondary Air Pump (with pictures) - uk-mkivs

Before I found this link Skoda offered to replace the pump for £400+; the pump costs £285+VAT!! There was nothing wrong with the pump, just the 6 rivets holding the thing together had eroded!!

Cost me £5 to fix!

'Albo' the author of the above step-by-step link is now my hero!
