Picking up a new (used) fabia soon

Featured Replies

I'm hopefully buying a fabia (mark 1 2001) very soon (ie this week)

I was wondering if anybody on here had any tips as in what to look for on the car - to either ask for a bit of money off if it's something small or just outright don't buy the car if it's big.

I've heard power steering is a common problem so I'll check that's working.. does anybody have any other tips?

Cheers... looking forward to being a member of this community*

Hi there

damp carpets, usually caused by leaking carriers, easy fix but good bargaining tool.

knocking from the front end caused by worn bushes, cambelt replacement can be costly if due

What engine?

It's a 1.4 estate (should have mentioned!)

Thanks for the info cam7777 will definiately keep a lookout!

Has it had a cambelt change? It's the best part of £1000 if not.

Check for noises from the front end, anti-roll bar, roll bar links and the console bushes.

A grand for a cambelt? Do you mean if it it breaks while you're driving? That's an insane price! On my last car it was closer to £100. It will have had one though I expect at least due to mileage.

And I'll definately look out for noises front-end.*

1.4 mpi or 1.4 16v? mpi is chain driven, 16v is a belt,

It's not 16v so it must be mpi right?

mpi is 8 valve, the idle speed is a bit lumpy on these engines.
