different grade engine oil

Featured Replies

in the manuel it states use 5 - 30 vw specific oil for my VRS 2.0 TFSI. but what i want to know is what happen if i put like 0 - 30 oil in? i know it will burn faster but will it couse any damage to the engine? because its thinner.

what about 10 - 40 oil? it will burn less oil, but it is thicker.

do you have to use vw specific oil?

thanks for the help

You should always use oil that fully meets the VW standards for Long Life service - this is currently VW 504 & VW 507.

Oil that actually states it meets these standards should be 5w-30.

Some people will say that you can use "just any 5w-30 oil".

However it isn't the viscosity of the oil in question, rather the extra additives and "stuff" which means that the oil meets VW standards.

If your car still has a warranty and if you want to be 100% sure you won't have any issues then stick to VW 504/507 specification oil for your vRS.

Currently you can buy 5L of Halfords brand VW 504/507 oil for £42 (don't be put off by the Halfords brand, the oil is actually made by a large lubricant company).
