New car delays - 1.4TSI

Featured Replies

I've just found out from my dealer that build of my factory order car (Octavia Elegance Estate, 1.4TSI DSG) has been delayed.:(

I ordered 8 weeks ago and build was originally scheduled for week 17, but now (week 20) it's still not been built and Skoda are telling my dealer it could be a while. I don't even have an estimate on build date any more. Dealer says problem is that VAG are generally struggling to meet demand for the 1.4TSI engine across Europe.

So there's not much I can do, apparently all cars with this engine are subject to these delays.

Any one else affected by the same delay or have any more info?

Apparently Skoda massively underestimated demand for the 1.4TSI - demand is more than twice what they predicted.

Consequence is that my order's build date has been put back from wk 17 to wk 36, pretty huge delay that.

Just thought others might appreciate the warning or maybe have similar experiences.

what are the stats on this engine i.e bhp, max speed etc?

122bhp but 148lbs of torque available from only 1500 rpm through to about 4000 if I remember rightly. 0-60 official is 9.7 seconds, but an auto express test had it about 9.1. I've driven one and the auto express figure doesn't surprise me. The broad torque band is what makes this a very capable engine. Quiet too.

That is some delay, have you got a px and is the dealer honouring the price they offered??

You must be very disappointed.

When this engine was introduced to the Golf mkV about a year ago they couldn't meet demand then either and VW reverted to offering the old 1.6 as a substitute.

The Golf and Octavia with this capable engine are both receiving great reviews so high demand is not a surprise; however Skoda/VW's failure to anticipate and match supply to demand is.

I wonder if VW are being prioritised for supply over the rest of the group.

i was thinking of this for my next octy, but now wondering how this engine would be in a fabia ;)

Yes I remember this. You would think VW would have learnt from this and upped production. Dealers were actually turning people away and refunding deposits. Anyway you will enjoy the car when you get it!

As to Fabia,it may happen (not saying any more!!!) but a 1.2 Tsi is on the cards.

Hi, the same sh...t here, ordered week 13., swedish retailer, production week first 17. after that 19., now 20 monday. I see 4 more cars type 1,4 TSI will be produced week 20. This is a HOPE! :-)

Same problem in Russia, people "are forced" to order 1,8 TSI.

Mine was ordered 25th Feb., built w/c 20th April and delivered to the dealership on the 7th May. Due to collect it (hopefully) next Wednesday :D:thumbup:

1.4 TSi DSG Elegance in Arctic Green. MF steering wheel being the only factory fit option.

Do they plan to put the same unit as the golf gt 1.4 turbo/supercharger (170) in any skoda?

Seeing as Skoda are using the 160PS 1.8TSI I can't see any need for the 1.4TSI in the 170PS flavour.

The 1.8TSI is less complicated as its turbo only and you also have the 200PS 2.0TSI in the vRS. There is the aforementioned 1.4TSI 122 and the upcoming 1.2TSI at the lower powered end too.

I can't see any supercharged engines being used any time soon, it would just make the engine line up more confusing.

pleased to hear this!Soundslike you were just in time

do let us know your impressions once you've had chance to drive it a bit

I'm about to order mine tomorrow so I'll let you know what the dealer reckons the delay will be. I'm not in any particular hurry though it would be better to get it by October when my current road tax runs out.

Update : the dealer said September which I'm happy to accept.
