Optimum Rev Range Diesle VRS + Your Average MPG

Recommended Posts

Just had my PD Diesel VRS for over a month now and with it been my first diesel the way it drives is totally different to a petrol. Roughly what is the most optimum rev range for max economy/efficiency?? Obviously the more revs equals more fuel but on the other hand drivng in too high a gear makes the engine struggle and again uses more fuel

Secondly, I do a 30 mile trip to work combining town, single carraige way and dual carraigeway. On that journey I get between 40-45mpg. How does this compare to everyone else?

Will look forward to your comments

Andy

Well there's not really a simple answer to that as it's down the load really isn't it? e.g. I'm on the level, not accelerating I can be in 6th at 35mph, sub 1000rpm without stressing the dmf or other parts, but if I wanted to accelerate away or come to a slight incline I should change down to maintain fuel economy and not stress the car. I think you just need to be sensitive to what the engine sound / vibrations etc are saying.

So is it safe to cruise/drive sub 1000rpm without doing any damage to car/putting it under to much stress?

Similar journey here too, average around 52 mpg, rarely keep in any gear above 2000rpm. Long dual carriageway journeys at 70 mph with cruise control on 55+ mpg.
