fabia vrs or civic type r?

Featured Replies

I realise this isn't exactly the least impartial place to ask this question but I am wondering which to go for. I am going to test drive both and then come to a decision but does anyone here have experience with both already?

Thanks

With the exception of fuel economy the CTR is a better car in everyway......Honda all day long.

Type R new style or old style?

I was not impressed with the loud exhaust in the one I was in, but that was probably an aftermarket jobbie.

You have to do a fair bit of work on a Fabia vRS to have it handle well, and it is a derv. Hybrid turbo and a few quid :P spent on it it gets nearer to the CTR but otherwise, the CTR will muller it.

Both cars can be driven sedately and fast, fuel economy of the Fab vRS is massively better in general.

I would definitely test drive both, your personal preference, insurance and 'do you want to or are considering modding' really comes into it. Out of the box, handling wise there is no contest at all, and the Fab vRS will only handle so well without spending mega money

The Civic without a doubt. I wanted one but the insurance was too high so bought the VRS which in every day driving feels more effortless. You really have to floor the Civic but boy the rewards are there if you work!

Moved too the fabia forum.

i had the fabia and it gets traded in tomorow for an 07 type r gt to be honest the fabia is great in many aspects as is the civic type r but to be honest they are completely different in many ways i say go for a test drive in both and then make your mind up

If you had to cut a limb off which one would it be? Arm or leg?

I think my question answers yours.

Well......

My sisters 04 plate Civic(sadly traded in 3 weeks ago) was massively better quality than the 06 plate Civic my Dad has had since new. He's had nothing but trouble with the suspension and anything more than a trip to the shops rattles your teeth. Plus you can't see bugger all out of them. That's on it's way in another couple of weeks. Plus round here you have to get used to being stopped by the cops coz Type R's and scoobies are the dealers car of choice.

Mark one Type R had independent multi link suspension tuned at the Nurbergring which was entertaining but "lively". Mark 2 has plan old torsion bars which didn't go down well with the evo lot! Still a great car though.

I would like a decent mark one myself.

Not as impartial as you may think . . .

Civic all day long and then most of tomorrow!

Neither !

Mazda MPS 3 kicks a Civic's bum all day long ! check one out theres a few left brand new and you can get a great deal on them at the minute.

2 totally different cars, I can't begin to compare them as they are vastly different. You should make up your mind if you need a hot hatch type drive or a smaller diesel for economy.

I think the Skoda is a better car, looks better (imo), better value for money (which was a big factor for me), and build quality.

But after owning my vRS for 3 years now, i really miss the loud burble from a good petrol after market exhaust, so think if i had the extra money for running costs and insurance, i would have gone for the likes of a Civic.

As others have said, the two cars are made so differently, its hard to compaire.

as others have said they are completely different cars so it depends on what you want it for, how you drive and all sorts of other things.

+1

I have had both a Honda Civic Type R and a Skoda fabia vRS. It depends what your after really as to what you get.

I mean one is a 130bhp diesel and the other is a 200bhp as standard. I found that the type R suited my 'style' alot better than the vRS. I did however prefer the looks of the vRS.

There are many people on here that just get a remap with the Skoda and seem to be alot happier. I myself state and will always state - they are different cars.

Take them both for a test drive and see what you think.

Rob.

have you considered the 2.2 type s diesel? still very lively with excellent economy and an excellent diesel engine some doubts about whether the standard clutch can cope with even standard power tho!

CTR will have more "presence" on the road, will be a lot faster as stock, and will bring on the :D :D :D VTEC just kicked in, yo!

However, the fabias lack of presence can often lead to it giving the odd surprise, it will do double the fuel economy (ish) and can be made as fast as a CTR without too much dosh.

How much is a like for like same age CTR? I imagine the fabia (say on an 05/55 plate) is around £3k cheaper? It will be cheaper to insure and cheaper to tax & keep full of fuel. But it will need that £3k spent on it to get it to anywhere near the :D :D :D of the CTR.

Don't forget the role torque plays as well. ;)

Bang on the money IMO:confused:

Having owed both you can not even begin to compare them, there really is not much else to say about TBH.

the Fabia will destroy a CTR.

the Fabia will destroy a CTR.

 Brilliant.

There is a nice Honda Civic Type R running at Santa Pod on the 20th of June. :D

It would be good to have a skoda fabia vRS turn up and see what happens.... Then would it stop threads like this?

(Please do PM me for more information)

I own a vRS and i work for honda and have driven about 3 type r's

ive been in the honda scene for about 2 years (my last car was a civic ek) and tbh if i was getting another honda it would be an integra dc2/dc5. the civic type r is a good car but has become less of an enthusiasts car, everyone has them, no lsd, the fabia is a much easier car to drive quick. the civics lack of torque can be annoying, but they are made to be revved and are more fun to drive when your in the mood. The fabia can be a good little 'sleeper' at times but if you've got the extra fuel and insurance money, go for the CTR!

Two different cars, two different leagues.

My other half has just bought a Civic while I have just bought my Fabia vRS SE. The Civic seems very juddery over anything less than perfectly smooth tarmac and she took my Fabia out and said she preferred how much smoother it was to the Civic! :D Personally, I prefer the simplicity of my Fabia over her rather more futuristic Civic, but I do like the push-button start!
