If you're used to the Mini handling then you will be very disappointed with either fabia. The MK I VRS handles atrociously and the MK II wasn't particularly different, although I've never driven the MK II versions with sport suspension.

If you need the space then sure change cars, but if you can cope with the space in the mini then I'd keep it or look at a Cooper D. You won't get 13k for yours IMHO as dealers are selling them for less than that my way, however the mini will retain more value than either of the fabia a year down the line.

Get the VRS and get it remapped. I had a Cooper S before and it's the worst car I've ever had, great handling was no use when I was sat on the hard shoulder every few days. The handling in a VRS is pants compared to the mini, but the VRS is miles quicker in a straight line than a standard cooper.

I don't think you'll get anything like 13K for yours, I don't want to disappoint but you might find it hard to sell it as there is actually very little demand for 2nd hand minis. They come out near the bottom of the JD Power survey and that has affected residual values.

you bought the wrong Mini!!! You want the original Mr Bean/Italian Jobby style!!! :P

For £9000 you have got a lot of choice vehicle wise and it depends what you want to spend it on.

Performance/handling/economy?

The Fabia II has sharp steering apparantly but is a bit softly sprung. The Sport may not be. Have a test drive and see.

Dealers may be selling them for less but there are the standard ones and there are now with a JCW body kit on and every extra except sat nav and sunroof :P

I use to have a black vrs fabia and a yellow vrs octavia I have just got my self a ER6N 650 KWAK and my wife has my car now. I only drive my car about 3 times a week I could all ways go for a grand punto 130d or a new eco panda

Blimey, from the thread title I thought you were considering:

Gen2_1.jpg

Personally I would opt for a Mk.II with a decent remap.

Plenty of other stuff out there for 9k as well.

May Even have one of them LOL:rofl:

A very under rated car IMHO is the Renault Clio 197. The engine is a peaky screamer but the handling is just awesome.£9k should put one on your drive but relibility and depreciation may be a problem. I wouldn't say the Furby has "atrocious" handling. There is grip there but body control could be better: It rolls a lot but not as bad as suggested and you can do a lot with suspension mods etc but the heavy engine up front means it is never going to be the sharpest thing around. A standard Vrs will surprise you on the straights. Driven a Fab 2 105 and not in same league performance wise though still a lively little car. Can be chipped up to Vrs spec anyway...

Dont really want a fast car just a nice midrange on keep looking at bmw compact 320d or the alfa 147 sportD with the 150bhp 1.9D in it? I may just keep my mini for 6 to 12 months yet

P.s It must do about 40 M.P.G my mini does that so looking along them lines

BMW 320d is a great choice:thumbup:

Well the car I looked at was a JCW cooper and had a chilli pack and nice radio with iPod adapter. Plenty of options, similar money to what you are expecting to get and being sold by a dealer not an individual. That plus it was on a late 08 plate, so also newer.

Add in that you get £500 of options on a new Cooper JCW, a good deal on finance, a deposit paid if you get finance and a discount from the RRP I don't think a new one would cost that much more really.

Just looking at a couple of the supermarkets you can ger a brand new Cooper JCW, with chilli pack and all the toys for £19k, so I don't think 6k over 1bout 12 months is too bad really in these times for a new car.

Glasses thinks £13.5k for a cooper JCW with 20k miles on an 08 plate.

The JCW only started coming from the factory on 07/08 anyway IIRC, so what you're selling is a mini cooper with some options. (The JCW body kit being one of these).

It's fairly well accepted that options don't make a car worth more come resale time, just easier to sell and that some options can have the opposite effect. IMHO the JCW kit might be one of these.

Regarding the 40mpg comment, that depends on how you drive it. The Mini One can get 45-50 if you take is reasonably easy and much lower if I drive it hard. Based on the statement that the mini cooper gets 40mpg I'm guessing you're taking it relatively easy, so in that case most dervs of a family size will get that without trying.

Still it's up to you what you base your calculations on, but personally I think you're expecting too much for the mini.
