I know its been asked before but I thought I would ask anyway Speaker Upgrades

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have been searching through the posts about speaker upgrades and what people have done, but I was wondering if I could get some info off you that you have all heard before

I have replaced the headunit in a Mk1 Oct and I am using the standard speakers in the front and have a set of old 6x9 in the back.

The question is, can you recommend or show me what speakers I need to buy to basically take the door panel off, unscrew the old speaker and whack in the new one, this goes for tweeker too, so basically I used the existing wiring and thats it? Or if I need to cut off the connectors and how to wire the new speakers up, I guess that I am asking for the easiest route to getting better sound that standard thats about it.

Via my searching someone did post a pioneer page of speakers that fit skoda's All speakers for Skoda Octavia (10-2004/-2006) - Pioneer Europe

So I have done my homework just need that bit extra from the guru's of ice please on what to do next and what to order for a reasonable budget

As for the 6x9 I have disconnected the back door tweeters and used the connections for the original rear speakers, is that good enough or am I missing something as they dont sound as good as I thought they should, I was lucky to get a 2nd parcel shelf from a friend who had cut his.

Any advice is much appreciated. :)

No need to remove the door panels as the speaker grills will pop off and you should see the screws that hold the speaker in. You can't go too deep with replacement speakers. As for recommendations best let your ears decide - go to a decent ICE retailer. You can cut the connectors or make-up a length of wire using spade connectors. If you go down the comp speaker route check the location of the tweeters - do you want to use the stock housing or place them elsewhere? Ditch the 6x9's and replace the stock rear speakers. Ideally run the rears off the headunit and get an amp to run the fronts and a sub in the boot.

Probably a waste of time, but VW have done "uprated" comps since at least the MK3 Golf. They just plug into the existing plugs. Could be worth contacting your local stealer in case Skoda do the same?

Yeh I would like to basically pull out the factory tweeters and replace them with a better quality version. The stock rear speakers whats a good replacement for them, would be a lot neater without those 6x9s for sure!

Is the power cable easy to get through to the engine bay on the oct?

thanks

Apprently you can remove the glovebox and there is space next or on the main harness. The wire will pop out on the left (standing at the front looking towards the rear of the car) of the pollen filter. You will have to remove (with care!) the plastic scuttle panel on the passenger side.

Or bugger all that and a drill a hole in the bulkhead!

I just (i say I when in fact it was my friend, but work with me here) wired a 100 watt amp to the boot for a double sub box I built. there is a hole on the nearside (UK Models) of the chassis, underneath the glove box that allows wiringto be fed through. My mate bent a metal coat hanger up to hook it through. it's easy enough to feed this wire and a 2phono wire under the trunking. the only real problem we encountered was the hinge on the back seat but we got round it with a little common sense

I hope it's not to late, but it's worth noting that to run a live to the amp, you don't need to go into the engine bay at all. Above the pedals in the drivers footwell, there is a piece of trim held on by two torx screws. Once off, you'll see a bar with 5 bolts coming off. Just undo the middle nut and whilst keeping the contact that's already on there in touch with the bolt, slip your amp live onto this bolt and screw the nut back on. Refit the trim and it's done. Far easier than messing around in the engine bay.

If you were to let the contact that was already on the bolt slip off, it will reset the clock and trip computer on your dash. Nothing major, just need to set the clock again!
