Difference in Fabia TDI / vRS fuel filter sizes?

Featured Replies

Having ordered a vRS fuel filter, when it came to changing today it turned out to be about 2.5" shorter in height than my old filter (which I think was ordered under "2001 TDI")

It had exactly the same thing on top but because of the height thing it sank too low in the fuel filter holder.... I had to stick a folded up cloth in there temporarily to prop it up to clip in to the brackets right. :)

I also noticed it was a flat bottom with no drain cap type fitting on the bottom..... Can anyone tell me what a proper vRS fabia fuel filter should look like, especially the bottom end.

Thanks

My std and vrs filters were both the same size, VAG do a smaller filter, but these are not the right ones for the fabia. They don't fit and clip into the holder correctly

All MK I Fabia 1.9 diesel fuel filters are the same.

What make was it?

VW oem one, stamped with the usual things

The box says 6Q0 127 400 H "Leitungsfilter"

Fitted in the holder fine, but was just not deep enough.

Looks like I should have had 6Q0 127 401 B.....

Hello,

I have a 2005 Fabia VRS and the fuel filter fitted by Skoda were a BOSCH 0-450-906-426 with no drain tap.

However I bought the wrong filter a MAHLE KL 157/1 which were taller, so I pushed the inner plastic fuel filter holder to bottom, and dropped new filter in. All the pipe fittings were identical and it had a drain tap.

I think too short is a bigger problem than too tall, but that's me thinking out loud. The Bosch filter can be found almost anywhere even on E.Bay. Changing the filter in the first place is the main point I believe.

No they are not. There are two types.

Jason, the newer shorter one is for the VRS, the longer one witht he drain is for the older PD. Both do the same job and I have run a VRS on the older one just fine.

To make the newer one fit you need a plastic cage effort to go in your holder. TBH your bodge is probably fine.

Having worked on quite a few Vrs', Skoda fitted the taller type as standard and many dealers fit them too, as I said on a lot of vrs' the short type do not seem to fit properly

I just needed to give it a 3" or 4" stool to sit on, and it fits fine. I wonder if I really need to find a different holder for it though. Maybe I'll remove it entirely and just attach the filter to the chassis with double sided tape - weight saving and all that.

going by the description i have the taller of the two, it was suppied by skoda.

Old thread revival time (better than starting a 20th)

I just went to give my Mk1 vRS a quick service of all filters and dead dinosaur juice. When I went to do fuel filter as oil was coming out the one ECP insisted was correct against the two coming up against my reg/vin (taller and shorter) they said it was the taller one so I ordered it. I have the shorter one with no drain tap at the bottom though :( But in different to some comments above my filter housing has a insert cradle (proper thing with clips) which fills the gap to make it sit in there correctly and I then thought ECP are a shower of #@*?'s. From this thread though I will go back out into the rain from whence I have just come and take out the cradle and fire in the tall boy (Bosch one), as it seems to be fine from the above advice, cheers.  Only thing I will not have are clips to hold it now as it's part of the insert bit....... might give ECP a rant to see what they say. Short one was £13 tall one was £27!

I can only assume that many without the cradle insert have had it removed and binned by dealers on first service and never known and large one put in instead.

Had to go out and check which one my car had fitted,as using the Reg number it gave both options.

Mine uses the longer type
