Cleaning gfx drivers

Featured Replies

My gfx card is still randomly playing up :rolleyes:

The lastest nvidai drivers worked for a few days and now it's a case of running in safe mode, uninstall/delete, the drivers then run on the Vista default drivers.

Anyone know of a decent driver cleaner that will help me sort this issue ???

I've tried the one from driver cleaner.net whidh does seem to be removing the drivers.

But no soon as I re-install them it goes tits up.

Actually as I type this I think I just need a decent nvidia 7 series vista driver :o:O

may need to go into Registry and delete gfx entries after the driver cleanup operation.

Just noticed you've used the one i linked to, so I'm a bit past suggestions on that front.

You sure the car doesn't have random memory, power or heat issues?

Am I right in thinking you have an 8800GTX?

You got the stock cooler on it?

I don't think so as it runs fine when the drivers are ok, back some weeks ago the driver kept crashing though as it's vista it would re-start without too much trouble, then I started having a problem when swithcing users as in it took forever before the log on screen appeared then when logging on it would take an age too load up the desktop screen but the desktop was running underneath a black screen. I fought with these issues for a couple of weeks, then i ran the latest driver on friday last week and all seemed well, until last night when I just kept getting a blue screen on boot which informed a driver issue was too blame. This was a ball ache as it upset the bios which needed resetting before any thing would happen, then it was a safe mode job too clean the drivers which when re-installled they imediatley crashed again I don't get any random symbols or lock ups or reboots which would lead me too suspect that the card is dying, I've now installed a older omega driver OmegaDrivers.net - Home of the ATI & NVIDIA Omega Drivers. NVIDIA Windows Vista 32 which is way out of date but works just fine at the moment.

No I do have one though but I am not sure if it dead as it was from a mates comp and it was caked in dust like nothing I've ever seen, I've cleaned it but still have not got round too testing it:O:O

I have a 7950 GX2 which I think may be the problem so far as nvidia can't be arsed in writing a decent driver for it in 32bit vista as it's now old technology.

how do you know it's the gfx card?

What did you use to figure out it was that?

(everything revolved around uninstalling the gfx drivers?? would it run fine in safe mode for a long period of time?)

I bought a pc a year or so back, seemed fine at the start, but blue screened more often as the months went on. Sometimes when under load during avi to dvd creation, othertimes, when not doing much like using IE.

I ended up checking my RAM using one of the apps in a Hiren's boot cd, which revealed a dead stick.

Got the shop to change the ram - hey presto, smooth runnings.
