iPod connection questions again

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have had a look through all the threads and am still totally confused. I have an '05 Octavia with a boggo stream head unit. What cable should I buy to connect my 120gb iPod classic? I am not too bothered about losing my cd changer.

Wardy - Do you still have the Connects2 set up available? Is it suitable for my h/u?

Many thanks

Dension: Ipod (100 or 300) Ipod & Aux (300 only)

Dension: Compatibility Database

Connects2: Aux (Look for the stream adapter)

Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists

Connects2: Ipod (Again, look for the stream adapter)

Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists

Xcarlink: Ipod

Search results*::*XCarLink

Will need to verify which Xcarlink will work with the stream as it doesnt state on site

The functionality of each may vary, some limit the songs you can access (making the 120GB neither here nor there really)

I went through the same list, with a few dodgy looking ones on ebay too, but the only one that seemed to fit my 'unlimited tracks' needs was the Dension Gateway, hence I got one lol. The only downside to the gateway is the odd way of controlling it so you that you CAN have technically unlimited tracks.

If you need any info about the gateway let me know, Ill help as best I can.

Hope this helps ;)

That helps a lot thanks. I just want a basic connection cable cheap as possible. Found a Connects2: Aux for £30 sound reasonable?

30 quid is not bad at all, but just remember that with the AUX input there is no Ipod controls from the HU, the control will only be from Ipod.

It also will not charge from that connection either ;)

That is pretty much what I want, nice and simple. Any recommendations on a holder for the ipod?

I think that depends on personal preference, a few choices you have are either, windscreen sucker type, vent holder, an angled plate coming out from the HU and one that will sit in the cup holder.

I dont have one as mine is wired into the little dash cubby hole so its nice and hidden away :D

I'll have a Connects2 available shortly, when I order and fit my Parrot handsfree that has iPod control. I can help you with fitting as well if you like, as you don't look that far away from me. Should have it available within a week or so?

For fitting, I have mine in the glovebox, and the iPod's charged when connected. You also get access to your first 6 playlists through the Stream display. You can also skip backwards and forwards through tracks.

If you wanted a cradle, no problem either - look for a Brodit or Dashmount no-holes bracket (Brodit Proclip Navman TomTom ALK Copilot Garmin Accessories Mounts Handnav Technology Ltd or car phone brackets: Parrot Bluetooth car kits, Brodit cradles and Holders, THB Bury CC 9060) then a iPod cradle to mount to it. Again, I think Brodit do one suitable.

Steve

just fitted a Harmon Kandon drive and play in my L&K to run my old 4th gen ipod on (got that set up with a 32 gb cf card in so plenty of music!) - basic intall (running it from the fm modulater into my stream HU) with the brain under the passenger seat and all wires stashed away was easy - works nicely, and fells easy to use (advance tracks etc) - biggest nightmare is where to site the screen - currently going for it velcroed in position, and then removing it when not in use and tucking out of site (no garage big city!)

Not bad for 20 notes of of ebay!

Personally I would only go for fm modulation if there was no other option i.e. a head unit with no aux or cdc connections. Each to their own tho :D
