4wd octy vrs

If you were going to go the full hog on a 4x4 you would upgrade the Haldex controller to make the handling more neutral.

I thought an uprated Haldex controller made the drive characteristics more neutral? If you were going to go for big power and track use the Vrs interior would be coming out anyway!

What do you mean............................... Des still has his dashboard :rofl:

pauls and ians car were never and would never be a match, pauls was completely stripped, bigger turbo as well as all sorts of others whereas Ian's had a remap and what else? not a lot as far as i remember!

and sweedish when you turn the ESP off on an octavia 4x4 its off, completely.

yes thats true, but you cant turn off the haldex.

the uprated controller applies more pwer to the rear to give a more aggressive 4x4 function (still not a true permanent 4x4 setup however a big improvement).

Dont get me wrong, as i said i love the 4x4, to be honest i still wonder if i shouldnt have one now as my last car was an audi quattro and there is something reassuring about 4x4 that you dont get in 2wd.........

I want eddies old car!

Apparently the Haldex is completely disabled if you pull the handbrake up one notch.

I don't know if that's completly true. When hammering round in Colins old 4x4 estate with the ESP off, it still seemed to cut in and killl the power.

Does it get shot of the extra weight at the back as well. :P

Why would you want to disable it?

Why would you want to disable it?

To see if you could actually drive. :haha:

Your question has already been answered, buy a 4x4 and change the bits over. It will be cheaper in the long run.

:iagree:

far far cheaper.

But that would make it front wheel drive which everyone knows was invented for girls:D

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Well the engineers that designed the new Focus RS obviously don't think there is anything wrong with front drive!

300bhp and 325lbft. I expect it's success is mainly due to having this "RevoKnuckle" Quaife diff jobber.

There's not much point in a 4WD road car really (let the slating commence!).

"From the outset, the option of four-wheel drive was rejected. "Front-wheel drive was our preference all along," says Capito, "because all-wheel-drive systems add cost, weight, inertia and, consequently, fuel consumption." Compensating for the extra weight required dynamic compromises Ford preferred not to make."

But then again, my other car is an offroader (a proper one)! So they do have their uses.....

My (limited) understanding was that Revoknuckle is suspension geometry, and nothing to do with the diff. The diff in the Focus RS FWD is (and always was IIRC) a Quaffe ATB, but that's got nowt to do with the hub carriers and stuff.

Ploughing?

Does it really matter when you're approaching 400bhp?!

I was just responding to sweedish, as I'd not long since found this out myself.

I've been looking into to because I'm very tempted to sell my M3 Evo convertible in favour of either doing up my Octy RS (atm my girlfriend's daily drive) or picking up a 4x4 Elegance for £3k and dropping it off at Awesome with another £3k (to start).

I figure since the eventual aim would be the APR stage 3+ turbo kit that Awesome sell, the mods along the way would apply to the RS as well, so the 4x4 might be a better starting point (although with the enhanced Haldex).

Your probably right Ken, I just read that Ford developed the system with Quaife so assumed.

I'll read this later properly: http://www.not2fast.com/chassis/revoKnuckle.pdf

So simple!

Basically, they've engineered a way of making a 2 pivot hub carrier work with a single wishbone. Aside from reducing torque steer, it reduces king pin inclination, and will reduce change in KPI as the suspension moves into deep bump.

I like girls. :)

Does it really matter when you're well over 400bhp?!

I wouldn't know. :D
