Woot Woot!!

Featured Replies

Well didn't really know what else to call the thread but anyway, After the trouble I have been having with the car I took it to the local Clutch place and asked them to stick a new one in as I was sure it was the clutch slipping etc.

A few hours later the manager rang me back to say that neither his mechanic or him could find anything wrong with it! Biting point was fine and the car pulled fine too, bl**dy typical I though, anyway, went up there to pick it up and have a chat with him. Had a look under the bonnet together and thats when I noticed it!! The damn clutch cable had fouled on the exhaust manifold!! Well I had heard mention of it on here but hadn't really considered it on mine, but when I saw it the light bulb in my head turned on!!! I though there's the problem! The cable looks well knackered as it has melted all the way through to the springy outer casing so no doubt the cable inside is binding like a swine!.

So from what would have been £170 worth of work, should now only cost me about £10 (Got the new cable from skospares) plus a bit of my time!!! WooHoo!! :thumbup:Well chuffed!! Just hoping that that will be all for a little while. Well apart from my driver seatbelt which still needs replacing and a knackered bulb in the boot that is, anyone out there have a seatbelt I could purchase?

All in all I'm pretty pleased with the little Felly aspecially as I think I got a pretty good one for £200.

chuffed,

Rich

Nice!!!!

Did you fit it yourself?

Hows the clutch pedal feel now?

I used the one from my Felicia on my Favorit. the cable inside is coated with something and the outer rubber thing is wrapped in foil.

Haven't fitted it yet, only put the order in to skospares yesterday so I hope it will arrive tomorrow, or latest Tuesday, I'll be sure to say how I got on fitting it when I do, also thought of wrapping the heat shield and outer with a bit of aluminium tape for a bit more protection, what do you think?

cheers,

Rich

Get the 1.3 MPI cable and swap it for that. The cable is shorter so less likely to touch the exhaust manifold. Also I believe internally it's designed better to prevent sticking.

:)Excellent news!

What really impresses me, especially during a recession, is that the clutch centre were honest enough to tell you that the clutch didn't need doing. They had the chance to make a few quid and decided to be honest and not make anything. Sounds like a good place to me.

Well I fitted the new clutch cable on Saturday, was a pain in the a*se to keep it routed smoothly but I think I have got there in the end, what should have taken about half an hour to fit actually ended up taking me about 3 hours:eek:!

:confused:Why you may ask! Answer because that dam spring clip thing that holds the cable end to the top of the pedal pinged of as I released it! I ended up pulling most of the drivers side carpet and sound proofing out, the clutch pedal rest thing and the accelerator pedal stop just to find it, but to no avail!!!

Turns out the damn thing had pinged upwards and behind the dash, I only found it when in a fit of frustration I shook the car from side to side and I heard it drop out!!!! Bl**DY MARVELOUS!!:mad::mad:

After refitting the offending item and the interior! The rest was pretty easy apart from that stupid plastic plug that fits in the rubber grommet as it goes through the bodywork to the pedal, grommet went in fine but I just couldn't get the plastic thing to stay in correctly, oh well will have another go when I feel more up to it:rotz:.

So there you go, live and learn!! Don't let that spring clip thing get away from you and the job is pretty straight forward, do expect to spend some time trying the routing though!

On a better note, yesterday I gave the felly new spark plugs, a new air filter, an oil change and a new oil filter too, now she almost purrs along, and my weird (what I though was a clutch slip) problem has gone away and it's smooth right through the acceleration range again, so of course I just had to take it out for a blast around the country lanes, even followed a matching Felly GLXi on the way home which was kinda cool!:D:D:D

cheers,

Rich

well done chap.

Those circlip thingies are a pain!!!

But glad you're motoring!!! :D
