what car would be useful to know ?

Looking through your previous posts I guess its a Fabia vRS, IIRC the xenon washers are supposed to work every third skoosh of your windscreen, and your rear wash pipe has most probably come loose under the bonnet at the bulkhead connector, the pipe popping off is a common thing and you should find a tonne of info on it in the fabia section.

The headlamp washers work only when the headlamps are switched on when you pull back the stalk to wash the windscreen.

By the way, there's only one r in water.

Any joy? You need to hold the stalk in the wash position for a couple of seconds to give the headlight washers time to pop up and squirt. As others have already said you need the lights on as well.

You might find that the headlight washer high pressure pump has failed - mine failed (2000MY Passat B5 same pump) a couple of years ago, they seem to rust and when the metal swells it cracks the plastic. This pump will be mounted on the washer bottle - see if it runs (makes a noise) when you use the windscreen washers with the headlights on - as said already, it only runs for a short time.
