Skoda 2.8 Overheat problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

in June 2005 i bought my skoda superb 2.8 elegance. i really love it & i never had any issue with it at all but lately I've noticed that while I'm driving noon and when i get stuck in traffic the engine starts getting overheated (the temp: 110C) & the A\C starts getting wormier but when i start to accelerate it goes down again.

FYI, here in Saudi the weather gets really really hot in summer and just to give you a hint about how hot it can be, nowadays the temp at day time goes up to 50C. At night i have no issues at all.

I've done about 130000 kilometer :D & I've changed the cambelt @ 95000 kilometer.

anyone have any idea what the problem is. i already spoke to the local dealer here & they said it's OK & normal if it's not hitting the red line :thumbdwn:

Thanks for helping me in advance & please forgive me if my English is not prefect :)

Welll, since it is on idle and in hot temperatures, it could be that radiator is getting stuffed. Flush the radiator. If that does not help, it could be the thermostat getting stuck. Failing that, it could be the water pump is about to fail.

Does the engine loose any coolant? If yes, this could be the water pump.

In any case, any coolant loss needs to be fixed before other things are replaced.

If there are no leaks, radiator flush and thermostat replacement are low cost and easy to do, so I'd start there before spending more money on radiator replacement and/or water pump replacement .

i already flushed the radiator & i don't loose any coolant ... I'll check thermostat

Thanks

Also check that the radiator cooling fan is working. Don't know about the setup on this engine, but on most cars you have a temperature sensor / switch screwed into the side of the radiator which activates the fan when the coolant rises above a certain temperature. These switches can fail thus preventing the cooling fan from working. Allow the engine to get slightly above normal running temperature (although from what you say it must be bloody hot where you are), then see if the fan comes on. If not you'll need to find out why - either lack of power to the fan, a blown fuse, or broken switch. You can pull off the connector plug to the switch and bridge the two pins with a piece of wire to see if the fan switches on. If it comes on you'll know the switch needs replacing.

Just a thought...
