You frightened the chickens by the sounds of it!

...advice noted - thanks, will try not to crash my Mk2 Octy

The chickens are on the alotments behind, there around 200 metres away from the hedge though! I did stick 4amps across the connections, wasn't anticipating it to go off as i wasn't sure id got the right wires.

Just a shame i didnt keep hold of the drivers seat to set that off too.

After the amount of money i've spent on the car, i dont really want to test the ones that are in it. Seeing as though there the half leather VRS seats.

haha i have a fireman friend who did something very simialar with a dash airbag and a dummy, he edited it together with a guy laying on the dash, and then did a switcheroo for the dummy and set it off!

nearly sent the dummy through the windscreen!!! scary stuff

how to blow up and waste a seat that costs nearly £1,000 new, well done

that and you don't put amps into anything, you put voltage "into" it :)

Too much time on your hands me thinks  Funny though.

On A MK I, bad, very nasty acrid smell, noisy such that you can't hear properly for a long time because you set off a number of explosions in a fair air tight and confined space.

You have

- Drivers airbag

- Passenger airbag

- Seats * 2

- Pretensioner * 2

Never mind the newer cars with the curtains.

You do realise how much those things would have sold for second hand due to the very high cost new?

About £15, that's if you can find someone who actually wants them.

There was one on ebay for a couple of months at £20, also non of the local breakers were interested either.

The chair wasn't in too good of a condition to start with, someone had broken the ratchet system as it kept dropping most of the time people had got in it.

Not wanting to get political over it, it was taking space up thats needed.

Ok then, im not familiar with airbag electrics and if voltage or amps plays the role of setting it off.

So i will accept your correction with light heartedness ;)

I used a tired 12V 17amp booster pack battery as a capacitor as such, as i wasn't sure the battery charger would have set it off. So a nice steady flow of 4amps just to build some capacitance and voltage. Then roll on two! BANG ahahaha

Also, if someones had to use the side airbag on there car, i dont think the car could have been in a good state to start with .

Ok it could have been a light bump that set it off, but i've seen what sort of damage a car being struck in the side can do. Even at 20-30mph!

is that the passenger seat?? black with a grey coloured insert?? if so any chance of getting the seat base material if its not damaged

The upright is pretty much fecked now, i could try and take the cloth off of the base of the seat if you was interested in it mate as that piece is in decent condition albeit a little dirty.

I've never taken a cover off of a seat.

If your within close proximity of Rotherham, your more than welcome to have the cloth.

Would you like to have a go, i think its held on with clips or there could be a zip somewhere, i am in the Scottish borders but would reimburse the postage

I will have a look later on in the week mate, pretty much hectic from tomorrow onwards...but will have a look as soon as i can for you. Will keep you informed though :)

airbags can cause pretty impressive burns when deployed

i would see these mainly on the face and forearms (ignition whilst gripping wheel in a crash)

i think sodium azide is the propellant

mind you - the wrecks that folks climb out of with airbags that have deployed with minimal injuries are pretty impressive

Nice to see, but what a waste of an airbag module.

Also, if someones had to use the side airbag on there car, i dont think the car could have been in a good state to start with .

you're wrong  my brother had an...incident which caused the side airbag in the driver's seat to deploy and I think all that needed replacing (other than the airbag/seat) was a damper, a driveshaft and a wheel. Skoda wanted a lot of money for a new seat with airbag

:)

Not being funny, but that wasn't a very sensible thing to do, even from that distance.

Airbags are definately not toys to be played about with -- they are very dangerous things in the wrong hands, or when deployed in any way other than what they're intended for. Next time you want to get rid of one, take it to your local dealer for SAFE disposal.

And you've just lost out on a fair bit of money -- skippy41 above won't have been the only one wanting to buy that seat off you complete.

Have to agree there, my job involves exstensive training in the safe removal and refitting of airbags, those and the other pyrotechnic devices in modern cars can do serious damage to us fragile humans:(...................

...............................having said that, it was quite fun watching your reaction, and especially the cameraman, did he check his pants after?;)

Bah, you only live once, could do much worse putting a spanner across a car battery

Good on ya Browny, Suprised I didnt hear you from my house hehe :P
