Help installing black B-pillars

Featured Replies

Hello,

Has anybody a link to some installation guide for black B-pillars (part no: KGA 093 008) with photos? There is an installation guide on the pack, but I'm not really good at English and don't know what some terms mean, like: middle door pillar for example, that's why photos are preferred ;]

Actually, it's almost clear how to install the actual B-pillars (4 vinyls), but I also have some 3 more vinyls in the pack, they're of smaller size and I have no idea why there are _3_ of them (not 4 or 2 for example). What should I do with them?

Thanks and sorry if I've posted into the wrong forum, I'm for the first time here. And yeah, I'm not a native speak as you probably have guessed already =]

Welcome to Briskoda. :D That part number is the Skoda Octavia Combi trim pack. You should have 4 pairs of vinyl trims - 2 for the rear of the front door, 2 each for the front and rear of the rear door, and 2 for the B pillar between the front doors.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the trim kit from?

When you try to fit them, spray the area with a mixture of water and washing up liquid. This will allow you to slide the vinyl around into position and make it easier to get the air bubbles out.

Sounds odd, I know, but it works!

Ordered it on the major russian online parts shop, exist.ru.

Thanks for the answer.

Are you sure this part number is for Combi? I actually have a hatchback, not a combi, here's a pic of my car: http://images.drive2.ru/car.journal.photos/3800/000/000/014/2f9/88cb9ebbd7475d50-original.jpg

So I don't think I need anything for the rear part of the rear door.

Denis is correct - the parts are still listed on the Skoda UK website, although they are no longer available here....

Ah... actually I see in the order list I have: KGA093006... so I got the right thing I guess. I don't know there did I get 08 number though, maybe they actually gave me 08 instead of 06 by mistake.

Anyway, 06 and 08 are the same, except 08 contains some additional vinyls for the rear part of the rear door, so I can use 08 on the hatchback, right?

I can't see why not

Just checked again and it's indeed 06, sorry for the confusion =]

Anyway, can anybody with such thing installed make a photo of the middle pillar with both (front and rear) doors open?

Offer the smaller vinyl strip up to the B pillar without taking the backing off. You should be able to see where it fits as it is shaped to match the pillar with approximately a 6 mm gap at the sides and 15 mm at the top. The long completely straight edge goes towards the back of the car matching the shape of the metal work.

Hello,

Today I've gave my car to the paint shop to paint side and bumper moldings so they match the color of the car and they said they will fit B-pillars for free. Will pick the car up tomorrow and see the results.

Thanks for help =]

Heh, paint shop fail - they said they don't know how to fit it =]

Gonna follow ExAudiSi's advice and do it myself tomorrow.

Novel, I would really like to buy one of these kits (KGA 093 008) but they are not available in the UK. Can you point me to the exact page on exist.ru where I can find the part (from there, my Russian colleague should be able to help me out).

Cheers,

Heh, my quest continues. Tried to fit it today and it looks like now I have an idea where and how to fit it. I've figured out what horizontal seal is =) but I don't know how to remove if safely. Any tips?

Pull the vetical seals out from around the window slot (after lowering the window first).

For the horizontal seals I left them in place because they can get damaged easily if you don't get it right and then they look wavy when you put them back. If you use my method and wet the door with soapy water you can slide the trim behind the end of the horizontal seal if you just pull it out a little. You will find that there should be a piece of the trim which would is meant to bend around a corner at the bottom behind the seal. I carefully cut this off so that I did not need to remove the horizontal seal as it is not seen.

Hope this helps.

ExAudiSi, that sounds doable for me, thanks. Did you cut the corner _before_ fitting or fitted and cut the part that is not needed?

I got the trim as close to the final position as I could so that I could see which bit needed trimming.

Take care when you do this as you can always cut a bit more off, but you can't put it back on!

Finally I got it fitted! ;] Actually only one side because was in a hurry to get home for a dinner in time.

Here's how it looks in my case (shoot on mobile so photo is not very good, but gives an idea):

I didn't overlap lower left corner for the front piller, I just folded it a bit and it fitted ok and got fixed by vertical seal. Will finish other side tomorrow and post a photo in a good quality if somebody's interested.

Thanks everybody for help!

any chance you can take a proper side on pic of the car with these on as i have a set i bought for my 4x4 and never fitted, and am not sure how they look on the saloon, they from the angle of your pic they do look good though so am may well fit them after all!
