Light knocking from underneath near side of VRS

Featured Replies

As title really, the best way to describe it is it sounds like the hand brake cable is knocking/tapping underneath the car (can't really tell if it's front or back). It's not the hand brake cable, the exhaust, the anti roll bar, engine mounts etc as I have been under it on a few occasions and can not find anything loose.

It tends to do it more at speeds up to 40mph and when the car oscillates or sways from side to side rather than going over big harsh bumps.

With it being a light knocking/tapping it doesn't sound like anything to be too worried about, it's just it's annoying as hell.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Loose items in the boot or in the hatch/door casings? have a look under the spare wheel.

No loose items in the boot, and have tightened/pushed foam rubber into gaps on everything in the boot but to no avail.

Exhaust heat shield.

No I've been under and tried all of them. It's more of a padded knocking, as in something that is shielded in plastic, rubber or the protective coating under the car being hit by something with slightly more mass than a heat shield.

Loose engine cover?

No, put foam rubber around that too after I had my new turbo fitted and got it back from the dealers with it not fitted correctly.

Last night I pushed the car side to side as my dad had a listen, and it would appear to be on the suspension as the lip the spring sits on on the strut was moving when the noise occurred.

 Front wishbone rear bushes ! put a crowbar next to the wishbone and bush and see if they move in the rubber, just done them on my wifes Fabia and fitted solid Cupra ones ! cheers - Stuart

It's been for it's back brakes today and while it was on the ramps the mechanic could find nothing. He heard the noise but couldn't source the problem GGGRRRRRR!!!!!:banghead:

Near side anti roll bar link. Getting both sides done on Tuesday, and hopefully regain my sanity and make driving the VRS fun again:rofl:.
