sort of i just want a change maybe something a bit different

I've had mine 5 years and still love it!

What would you change to?

Maybe not the best place to ask the question... ;)

Yeah, but WHY?!

I've only had mine a year, and she's got her issues for sure, but I plan on keeping her for as long as possible.

The only reasons to sell for me, are:

1) Can't afford running costs anymore

2) Need something bigger (unlikely)

3) Need something smaller (even more unlikely)

4) Eventually buy a MKII (maybe one day)

If none of those apply, there's just no compelling argument to get rid. FACT.

The mk1 is getting on a bit now, maybe he fancies something a bit newer sitting on the drive?

I can never sell anything.... which might explain why i've got so many cars!

I agree with martziniuk, but it is still such a capable car. The only car I'd swap mine for at the moment is a Mondeo ST220, but we're all allowed guilty pleasures ;)

The octi is getting on I agree but in Vrs trim it is still a very eye catching motor.

I will probably get a Octi mk2 with dsg box when I decide it's time for change as I really want an auto next time and the mk2's looks are starting to grow on me now.

The trouble with cars today is there are not many stand out motors, I was looking at the latest octi online the other day and thought it was decidedly boring to look at IMO.

HAHA quality, well summed up!!

I'm considering selling mine once it's all paid for (next summer) and getting a diesel. I had the service reminder come on the other day and it was only serviced in November so I'm doing a lot more than average mileage. It's a great car but if I had it as a weekend runabout it would be a bit easier on the wallet than using it as my day-to-day driver.

I've just got mine and cant even think of getting rid of it.....

Just make it faster!!!!!!

Have you done anything to it? I'm only at the beginning of what may become an extremely slippery slope, but even with some minor mods it can feel really different, gives it a new lease of life. I've done 28k in mine, and with some recent upgrades (only FSDs and wishbone bushes!) it really feels fresh again. Perhaps if it 'gave more back' you'd be happier?

What do you like about it, and what don't you like? It's a fantastic car, but if it's not for you then maybe try to work out why, and if there's something else that's more suited to your needs/desires/pocket etc.

Maybe go into a few dealerships and get some test drives of other motors you could afford - when you hop back in to the vrs you'll know if you want to change I reckon. I knew when I got back into mine after very nearly swapping it for a mint mk2 golf gti, just felt like I was 'home again'.

out of interest what diesel would you be looking at getting?

I'd probably stick with the VAG group, something the same or similar size to the Octy and with a TDi engine with 130bhp or more and remap it.

My sister has a Mk1 Leon TDi which she uses for local trips for childminding while I do 36 miles every day for work, so really we should swap cars :)

yeh i was thinking pd130 before i got the Octy but i decided to go for the faster, bigger model.

ok cool, what mpg does she get from the leon do you know?

i sold my first octy vrs for a Civic type R, wasnt impressed. Unless vtec was kickin in the car had no go, no luxurys inside and what loud. Has a Sierra cosworth after that and when i sold it i thought i would miss it like mad but when i got the my new WRC VRS i dont miss it so much. VRS is sensible, fast, cheap to run , huge boot & leg room, full of toys and fun to drive. A great all rounder. As someone on here said the only car i would think about changin it for would be a ST220 but the MPG as shockin with them. I plan to keep my wrc no.73 for ages (even though i have never kept a car over a year)

what is the best because i've been toying with the idea of trading the mk1 for a mk2 vrs.i've just been trying to justify if the extra cost of probably £2-2500 with the mk1 is worth it.

She's not got the 130 only the 90 I think and only uses it for short trips (less than 5 miles) so only gets around 45mpg but I reckon if it was taken on long motorway runs it would get 55mpg or more.
