Featured Replies

Hello folks thinking of buying the wife the above car .The car has done 78000 miles with full skoda service history ,they are going to do the belt as it is due,or knock so money off so I can get it done myself. Can anybody please tell me any obvious things to look for when I go to view the car tommorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Get them to change the water pump when they change the belt and tensioner, to one with the metal impeller, the plastic one can disintegrate

make sure there is no banging or a sound like a cement mixer full of gravel coming from the gearbox it will mean the duel mas flywheel is away if there is get them to fit the single flywheel and clutch kit £230 all in fitted

I don't think this applies to the 105 tdi but if you here a whistling sound the turbo could be on the way out, I think it mainly applies to the 140 tdi

watch out for the rear wash wipe tube popping off - nothing major, just an annoyance - which reminds me I must fix mine. as suggested get belt, water pump etc done...did that with mine when first bought - belt had very little wear despite 67k (no record of it being done on FSH) so better safe than sorry.

Only thing that has become apparent with mine so so far is fuel temp sensor gave up and came up with an emmissons warning on the maxidot - easy to fix - £15 for the part plus the labour - seen the mpg rocket from mid 40's (record was 49mpg on a long london to taunton run) to near 60mpg for same journey (and wasnt been too gentle on the throttle).

Cost me £800 to get a full service and cambelt and waterpump changed so I would get them to do it!
