how much would it cost?

Featured Replies

hi all my fabia mk1 "w" reg 1.4 mpi 8v is in need of wishbone mounts being replaced and also the clutch and timing chain

I have been to another garage for another issue, a water pump gasket (which i was quoted £150 all in labour an part) i paid 77p for the gasket from VW an gave my friend £20 to replace which he was happy to do, so you see the local garages are rip off merchants

yesterday I went to another garage my friend recommended and asked him for a price, he then said he would ring me back with a price but he still hasnt got back and hes umming and arrghing which doesnt make totally trusting

could any1 give me a rough estimate for the above jobs please so i have got clue wether to let them go ahead with the work or tell them to shove it!

where abouts are ya? drop Ross at Unit 18 an email, I have I reckon the most looked after mpi in the world ever thanks to Unit18 :D

yeah ross at unit18, phone him one day and he talked me through a problem, real gentleman

im in (stockport) manchester, 2 mins from the m60

I reckon that sometimes you just need to waste time and holidays and travel to get the job done right and/or cheaper, or if you don't want to do that just bite the bullet and give it to your local dealer. Me, I do a bit of both plus a bit of DIY !

Why would you need a new timing chain?

because its prob rattling badly like they do after a while due to no tensioner on them. common problem and the chains are only around 25 iirc? plus fitting of course. what part of the uk are you in?

in stockport mechanic said timing chain must be changed before the clutch even though the clutch is slipping amd not to do anything else because it would make no dfference is this trrue

no this is not true. i have yet to see a fabia destroy itself due to a noisy chain, they only really get loud and thats it. most people only change them due to the horrid noise. the clutch is way more important.
