sluggish seat belts

Featured Replies

The seat belts in my car seem to have very little tension to them.

If I pull a length of belt out and then release it, the spring return mechanism barely has enough strength to retract the belt back into the door pillar.

This seems to be true on both the driver and passenger sides. Does anyone else find this on their octy vrs?

Cheers,

iep

spray them with a silicon spray and they will go straight back in with no problems

My drivers one was pretty bad anyway as the car has done over 110k but leaving a CG-lock attached to it for the last 9 months hasn't helped!

ME :D same both sides as well

do you spray onto the belt? or in the mech?

Straight onto the belt mate

Furniture polish works well too

I'll have to give that a try :D

Mr Sheen was what I used last time IIRC

fully agree with lex.we use that in the transit when dirt get on the belts and plus it doesnt come off on your clothes.i also used silicon spray on the belts in my ibiza.

I am sure that I have read on here in the past that cleaning the edges of the belt with a wet wipe can work wonders for a slow recoil.....

To stop you getting crap on your clothes just clean the dirt from the top runner, ie "the adjustable bit" thats what they do at a dealer will fix the problem for sure!!!:thumbup:

Hi iep,

I am having this problem also, and so it was bad for me, as the drivers side clip became shut in the doorway here, and has damaged paint surfaces.

I would like to know how to make more tension on both of front belts, to stop this.

Thank you

Hi Lex Dysia,

This was the first thing that I was trying here, and it did not change the problem for me.

Thank you

Good tips (thanks Lex) not sure where to get myself a can of silicon spray though?

I'll try this out (once I get the silicon) and take it from there.

If I learn anything else Soviet, I'll let you know.

Cheers,

iep
