Andy, what you are doing is all but the last action of resetting the service interval display. The final action is to turn the knob for setting the clock to the right and the service or service now message is reset. As far as I am aware you cannot make the service interval display on current Skodas (I'm excluding the new Octavia) to indicate when the next service is due, whereas you can on some if not all Audis and VWs fitted with that display function.
