Kind of knocks, clunks when driving over humps.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Although I have had a lot of things done to my Skoda vRS there is still something wrong with the driving properties. Since yesterday I can notice a kind of clunk, knock when driving over humps. On top of that the front wheels are all over the road if I drive through the 'road works'

I have new dampers, wishbone bushes....

Please help . I am going on a long trip in my car and do not want any disappointment.

Many thanks

The clunks could be related to some common problems on the Octavia.

* Anti Roll Bar Bushes

* Radiator Mounts

* Wishbone bushes (you've allready had these done)

They are all in-expensive parts and should clear up the noise you have noticed.

ARB Bushes indeed most probably. Radiator mounts are easy to check too

But a PITA to change :rolleyes:

hi,

do you mean Anti Roll Bar to chassis bushes or link ones as I have had chassis bushes replaced two weeks ago. Have not done the links ones. Are 2 or 4 link bushes on vRS 2002?

I have had also two bottom radiator mounts done , the top one fine - that is what I have been told, but of course it might not be true.

I was driving a car yesterday and it is still there.

Many thanks for helping

Grab hold of the 2 Anti roll bar linkages, preferably with the cars weight on the wheels and give em a damn good shake to check for play.

I presume the ball joints and track rod ends have been checked?

mart, yes the ball joints and track rod ends have been checked. The track rod ends and tie rods were replaced a few months ago. I am sorry but I do not quite understad about 2 anti roll bar linkages. What do you mean?

Many thanks

Long things which attach to the strut and anti roll bar end, in the wheel arch

I had knocking/rattling over bumpy surfaces, and it was the drop links.

There so easy to change, you may aswell give them a bash!

Mart, how many bushes are there for each side 1 or 2?

Bodge, I look at them as well.

Cheers guys

Yaro, Drop links and anti roll bar linkages are the same thing. There is one on either side and look like this.

Thanks. That is handy to know mart for someone like me:-) I get them looked at and if necessary done. Cheers

Are there any bushes that go with them?

  • Author

Are there any aftermarket ones or the standard ones are ok? Cheers

Nope, they're a one piece thing (like Marts pic). No bushes to change.

A normal octy does have interchangeable bushes in the links, so don't get confused with them.

Great. Cheers.

One more quiestion though. What is your opinion on ARD rear ARB? I am thinking of fitting it? Is it recommended to have a front one fitted?

Many thanks

The reason for fitting a rear ARB is to increase rear roll stiffness, and hence reduce understeer in hard cornering in the dry. Unless you're planning a track weapon a stiffer front ARB might be unnecessary.
