Newbie Octavia Mk1 PAS question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to Briskoda but unfortunately old car.......T reg Octavia TDi SLX estate approx 130K on clock.....has been really reliable until recently.

Have read forums with interest...my probs started with auxilliary belt tensioner snapping the bracket at top of engine mount and the damper plus the sharp end of what was left of bracket dropping onto belt and power steering pump pulley. The tensioner was replaced by local garage ( not Skoda ) and all seemed well for about a month. The pulley seemed fine and the belt I was meaning to replace at next service.

Yesterday however, loud clunk, lost power steering and battery light on......managed to limp it home.......the alternator pulley had fallen off completely and the shaft has been worn away on the alternator! After reading previous posts I take it the snapped tensioner and the alternator pulley wheel problem is down to the alternator clutch being defective. Luckily I know somebody with Mk4 Golf about to be scrapped and managed to get alternator Bosch 038 903 023L from that and fitted it..result!! ...until power assisted steering pump started leaking over drive big time.

Looks like I need a new pump/pulley also ...does anyone know if A3 or Golf4/Passat pump is compatible and can be just plugged in ( unfortunatley I need to go to scrappies for this as mates Golf does not have one) many thanks Andy :o ..... did I mention this is a great resource

welcome.
