A few night shots after a day of detailing my Mk2 Octavia

Featured Replies

Its taken me about 20 hours in total to get the outside how i wanted it to be, spread out over a month or two.

Mainly trying different combinations of polish/wax/sealents to come up with a setup im happy with.

To achieve the results in the pics below, i used a Kestral DAS-6 Dual Orbital Polisher.

I was using Meguiars #83 compound on a Meguairs 7" Polishing and the Autobrite 4" Polishing pads to clear alot of the scratches and marks up.

I then moved onto Meguiars #80 compound on a Meguiars 7" and the Autobrite 4" Finishing pads to refine the finish.

The car was then topped off with a coat of Collinite 915, im going to add another layer to go with it.

The black plastic trims had alot of built up of compound from a previous attempt, i did try removing it with AG Fast Glass to no avail.

These were treated with black shoe polish in the end, which cheered me up as it was letting the car down.

The tyres were treated with Meguairs Hot Shine using a cotton applicator pad.

I recieved a nice lovely red sunburn from it too.

Hope you all like!

Cheers mate!

Lol, i have been experimenting with different combinations. That was also taking the wheels off and sealing them.

I think i will be taking the wheels off again in a couple of months, Apply a fresh coat of poorboys wheel sealant. Or try the Collinite 915 on them.

If this is a willy waving competition :D then my mate and I are still on with mine.. but I agreed to rebuild his laptop while he was here so I've come inside to do that while he finishes as he has to be back to the south west this evening.

Looking good. I like the second picture.

And the dust is still settling as we read..........

I washed and cleaned mine the other day, and looking at it now, I might have not bothered :(

I know that feeling all too well, but as soon as it rains you still get the dirt shedding and the beading:thumbup:

Just hosed mine down and it likes OK to Joe public, but it could look a lot better :)

Good job. The wax should help to keep it looking good and as much dust off as possible. found that with the AG HD Wax on mine.

I love watching peoples reactions as you pull up somewhere, its like a mirror in the daylight!.

Ben its not about size mate, its how you use it that counts!

lol, its not a willy waving competition :P

Just spent 14 hours on the car this weekend, as its my first detail on the new car

Washed using snow foam/megs apc mix and Karcher p/washer then washed using 2BM

Clayed with Megs

Washed again by hand using 2BM

Polished with Poorboys

Sealed with Poorboys sealant

Waxed with Colinite 476

Cleaned all inside with megs apc

hoovered and autoglym freshener applied

Whole process took me 14 hours from Fri afternoon to Sunday teatime

All by hand, hence my right arm is blinkin killing :(

Have to get me a kestrel like yours Dan

Have to say though, it was rough as sandpaper before especially at the door bottoms, but now it's as smooth as a babies bum, well chuffed

Cheers

I bought it from Autobrite as a package deal mate.

You can buy the Kestral from them for £75 + P&P.

I also bought 6 off 4" pads of 3 different types of pad. (Cutting/Polishing/Finishing)

Damo, i've still to do the inside

The inside might only take you about say...a month then :D:D:D

Seriously though Dan, great pics and a very nice job you have done there.

Catch you around mate

Damian

Nice work........

Many thanks matey, although there a little scuffed now :(

This is a recent photo of the car with a colour coded grill, the car hasn't been polished since around june/july. Just a quick going over with Meguiars Nxt Gen Wax.

Still looks good now.

Hi ppl, sorry i've only just seen your posts.

Many thanks for the replys, i've now managed to curb a couple of the wheels though :(

It looks a bit of a dog at the moment, i think the last time i cleaned it was October, but with all the slush and dirt about at the moment. I cant find it in my interest to clean it for it to be dirty again in a day or two.
