Power Steering Problem

Featured Replies

Got a tempremental problem with my PAS. Only seems to happen when you first start the car. what happens is you start the car and have no PAS. I couple of turn off/on and it comes back to life and works fine. Its happened to my brother a few times while he lent the car. He said the PAS would come back to life if he left it a good few seconds.

First thought it might be the sensor but dont think this effects the vRS (2004). Could low fluid cause this? or is the pump on its way out?

I've plugged vag-com up and its reported no errors except for the camshaft sensor which is down to another intermitted problem I have. I've also had the battery checked and thats fine.

Have you lokkd into the possibility that it might be the charging system? - ie the imfamous broken wire/wires underneath the car - have you "consulted with search" fully. I'd think that if you wait a few seconds before creating any stering demand, after starting (plus a few extra revs) then you would not see this happening - that is if you have not got aproblem with the charging system. Remember, it is not "good practise" to demand large steering inputs before the car is rolling.

Did consult the search and that's when I first thought it might be the sensor. Will search about the wires.

When I had similar problem,it was the battery, which was about 5 years old.

Scanned again today and found the following

17911 - Load Signal from Alternator Term. DF: Implausible Signal

P1503 - 35-10

Think this might have somthing to do with it. From a quick search I need to check a few cables.

Well I've got to the bottom of it. Found this thread How to: Fix broken Load Signal cable from Alternator - SEAT Cupra.net - SEAT Forum not long after starting this thread. After a few flat batteries I decided to check it out. Tonight I removed the undertray and discovered the fault. One of the wires from the alternator has broken. Due to lack of light I'm unable to repair the wire so tomorrow armed with a touch I'll sort it :)
