AMD One-click question

Featured Replies

I read somewhere that this fried an ECU of someones car. I am interested in this unit, but I am slightly concerned about hearing of this.

How likely is it to happen?

What would be the state of play if it did, presumably the car would not work, and you would have to buy a new ECU if this happenned? Does AMD offer any form of guarantee/compensation in the event of this happenning?

Cheers

I think there's stories of most tuners kit "frying" ECU's. Whether they are actually any more than just stories (or other tuners trying to rubbish the opposition) is debatable.

There's a small risk with any mod, just choose what suits you best and go for it :)

I know of at least 2 occurences of properly fried ECU's using OneClick... The ECU's had to be replaced by VW at full cost to the customer.

No rubbishing going on there, just the facts.

Although I don't know how many OneClicks have been sold... If it's 100, then I'd be a bit worried, if it was 1000 I'd be less worried lol

mm I have seen a couple of people saying it has fried ECU on other forums. maybe a faulty batch, also other people on here said it worked ok... so you take your choice I also looking at a one click

But has it been proven that is the One Clicks fault? This would also effect the DMS system aswell and ive not heard any stories about them.

I know of one Golf owner that had a problem with a One Click and his ECU. I know of several with Mini's that have had problems, all of which have been people pulling out the unit mid operation of turning the ignition off/on at the wrong time and leaving the ECU stranded. Seems a bit odd that on the ECU itself there wasnt any physical damage just the programming had been lost.

Best people to ask about these worries is AmD, and put your concerns to them. In the interest of public relations they should be able to tell you what warranties you will get on their product and its operation.

And this should be in the AmD forum ;)

I was explicity told by the chap (Edd I think) who talked me through the installation over the phone whilst I did it that I had to be very careful to do everything exactly in the right order and that I didn't take the unit out or press anything incorrectly whilst it was doing it's funky stuff otherwise I could end up with a non working ECU that would have to be fixed by a dealer.

sounds about right... looks like you got the last batch that was at

Spoke with Ed yesterday as I've had one on order for about a month now. said that they've had a faulty batch in and are awaiting replacements.

Said that they have at least 20 customers waiting.

Didn't mention the price increase but did say that to upgrade later to a custom remap would cost about

What would you have had to get done if you bought a second hand unit? I thought they were generic?

You need it re-coding for your ECU... when you first plug a new unit in it codes itself to your ecu number so it cant be used on another car so you need to make sure you include the

Well it depends like anything second-hand its what someone will pay for it.. I would say about 200-250 would be ok for a one-click re-map.. but you need to take the 170 off so that means its worth 30-80 ??? in my opinion???? as I say it depends on what someone will pay.

Would you describe the procedure as complicated?

Its not particualrly complicated, its just you must stick to the insructions.

The other thing that Ed said re upgrading to a customer remap from the generic was that to wipe the code it had to go back to the manufacturer. They charge
