Are these legal?

Okay, so I had some red lamin-x lying around and a little bit of spare time for once, and this:

was the result.

It's a quick hack job (I didn't have enough film to wrap the whole light, so there's a strip across the middle that looks gash close up...).

Just can't decide if the indicators (see above) are still yellow enough to get away with it. What do you guys think?

They look pretty red from where I'm sitting :thumbdwn:

What look are you going for? I can't really see the point at the moment....

I'd just like them to be completely red, like they are on the Lupo next to it... I just like the look.

I did all red's aaaaaages ago! :P

And i can confirm . . . the indicators do not shine the correct colour! Be prepaired to be pulled over on a regular basis

If I met you and you failed the standard Police attitude test I'd be telling you to take the film off. Sorry to be a spoil sport.

Typo. Doh!!

don't worry about police, they are assholes, there is way round the tail light wrap, put little pinholes in the film, but don't use power wash on them lol

Bit of a pointless statement....and extremely uncalled for.

Plenty officers on this forum, are they all assholes ??

No, didn't think so. rant over.

As for the lights, i quite like them. :)

so you'd rather we do away with them completely would you?

great call

don't worry about police, they are assholes,

Great attitude, I bet it helps a lot if you get pulled.

I want to be a Police officer, does that mean I'm striving to be an a***hole at the moment?

as for the lights, i like the all red idea. is there not a certain coloured bulb you can use that when mixed with red wil produce orange? I want to say green for some reason

Hey you cant tarnish all police officers with the same brush, same as anyone else in life, good cop, bad cop, bent cop, helpful cop.

Yea you get some that will pull you over for nothing even do dangerous things like flash you causing you to be blinded while driving, on the other hand you get ones that help you if you break down and also if your driving around lost.

Im not a cop and yes i get very annoyed like everyone else does if you meet a bad inexperienced jobsworth but on the whole they do a good job and just trying to prevent an accident.

I think they look orange enough, they look about the same as my Audi's ones!

Side-stepping the troll, a quick search on green and red yields:

green and red will make neutral shade of brown differing in tonal range according to the quantities of red and green added.if white is added to a high amount of green and lesser amount of red this will make a brown/grey looking colour.

I think you want a bulb in there with the following rough RGB values :)

As an a**hole with four years experience I would say that a regular bobby might stop you for them but probably wouldn't know the legislation well enough to do anything. They would more than likely give you a producer or look for some more straight forward offences if they really wanted to do you for something.

HOWEVER - If a traffic bobby stops you you would probably either be made to remove it (this is by far the most likely) or be fined or both. They are then very competent at going over the car with a fine toothed comb to find further offences. In general though if you pass the attitude test you'll be fine. "Yes sir, no sir, of course you're right sir, I'll change it immediately sir" is all they want to hear and it will get you everywhere. Traffic bobbies have heard the excuses too many times and they've also seen the results of people ignoring their advice, so don't try to argue and tell them they're wrong, unless of course you believe they've genuinely made a mistake in which case you're fine to question but BE NICE!! If you are you'll probably be let off with words of advice.

Perfect example. I caught a lad speeding (no speed reading equipment in my car so I couldn't do him) but I was doing 60 in a 30 to keep up so it was pretty clear. As there was nothing I could do I stopped him to give him words of advice then he'd be on his way. When I said I'd stopped him as he was going too fast he said "Don't think so mate" I politely informed him that I wasn't asking him, I was telling him to which he replied "Nah, not having that. Prove it." Of course I couldn't prove it and that had never been my intention. But the attitude test was horribly failed and he was reported for lighting and number plate offences.

Fast Fitz. You're right, there are some assholes in the Police as in every walk of life. I bet there are some in your line of work ... are you one?

I haven't used this site for quite some time and I'm afraid that it's people like you who put people off from using it.

There's lots of harmless banter going on but me thinks you've over stepped the mark. Time to grow up a wee bit??

As an asshole of a few years experience, I can tell you that I'm only an asshole if an asshole is an asshole to me first.

Accepting that you have made a mistake can often be the first step to avoiding a FPN or a prosecution - if your attitude is reasonable and polite then you will not create immediate antagonism between yourself and the police. A rude, threatening, uncaring or any other negative attitude will almost certainly result in me writing you a ticket for anything I can.

In relation to your question, I'm not a traffic cop, so my knowledge of lighting offences is limited, but if you were unlucky enough to be stopped for such a minor thing, you'd probably get a verbal warning or a VDRS for the red tape over your lights for the offence of 'misuse of lamps'. A VDRS is similar to a 'producer' but you have to have the form stamped by an MOT registered garage to say that the changes have been made and the car now conforms to regulations.

Keep the thread on-topic :)

Cheers,

Yea they do look too red to be honest. I'd be careful. They look smart though.

and as repeated before, someone does need to grow up.

What have I stirred up?!?!

Seems the consensus is that I'd be pushing it.

I'll have to think of something else. Maybe I'll stick a set of pre-facelight lenses on. At least they don't have the huge chunks of white wrapping round the sides that I *hate.* But nothing will be as good as all-red :(

Trouble is, the car's stuck in the dealers this week... Will I get stopped on my journey through Glasgow city when I collect it? Time will tell.

Nerd!

As for the lights, they look quite nice, but that's not the point of rear indicators- I'd rather they were as visible as possible, regardless of whether you get pulled.

£10 says you don't. :D
