general wax question

which is the best wax out there?

i am using collinite 476S, am i good to go ?

i just use wax no polish at all

You need a smooth clean surface before applying an wax. This is where claying and polishing come in creating a foundation which will enhance the finish.

Collinite 476 is a very good wax and durable making it ideal over the winter months when it's difficult to maintain the finish. There are so many other good waxes out there covering a range of prices - it's difficult to isolate a single pot/tin.

$100m question that!

As above preparation plays a big part so if your car hasn't been clayed before that's a good place to start followed by a polish (Autoglym Super Resin polish for example) to hide/fill/remove some of the paint defects you more than likely have, then top it off with the 476S which is a really good value, mega durable wax.

I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations for other waxes but what you have will do the job just fine.

i have noticed one thing if you keep waxing it after every wash that the wax builds up quite thick on the car and then looks like the car is lightly scratched. if the old wax is removed first and then new wax placed on it it looks perfect. So im thinking now not to wax it often (not that you need to with collinite).

how do you know when its time to re-wax ? The car is always parked outdoors and unlike the moody cloudy weather you Brits have :rofl: , it is always sunny and hot here

remember the wax i use is collinite :)

I like to go on the quality of the beading.... if u gots puddles u needs wax ;)

Autoexpress really rates this -

Turtle Wax Extra Gloss | Products | Auto Express

but it is really a sealant to go on top of any wax polish applied beforehand (it is a watery liquid).

I've used it for perhaps 2 yrs now (low mileage car) but lasts really well and gives lovely finish.
