should my car have a engine cover ?

Featured Replies

i have a 1.2 12v 2007 fabia which doesn't have a engine cover.my old 56 fabia with the same engine had a engine cover.

my new car is an ex rental so has it been took off and not replaced or didn't it come with one in the first please ?

how much are they to buy ?

thanks

I dont think any of the fabia II's have engine covers.

mine does....

Petrol engines don't have cover ;)

My car is Fabia 1.2 HTP 70hp II and I asked the representative and was told that the 1.2 engine has no cover.Producer recommends that heats the engine.

Cheers!

my 1.9tdi has a cover!

Not much point on petrols as the engine cover has noise reducing foam under the cover, as petrols are not as noisey... logically leaving it out reduces a little mass and therefore better acceleration, lower CO2, and lower fuel consumption :D

After all why carry more mass then needed :D

Timelord

PS my olds have a 1.2 12v 70BHP and they do not have a cover, but my 1.9TDi does:D

The 1.2 64bhp AZQ variant in the Mk1 had an engine cover. It was very clever in my opinion and I am sad it is no longer fitted (for reason 3 below)

1. It housed the air filter and air intake - very clever

2. It did quieten the top end a fair bit

3. It kept the upper half of the engine nice and clean

4. It probably helped the engine warm up a bit quicker in winter and it certainly helps to stop it cooling so quickly when switched off.

5. It looked good

It was replaced by a conventional airbox on later engines, allowing 4 more bhp and a saving of a few quid.

A factory skoda representative on a visit to our dealership when we launched the roomster at the motor fair some two years ago told me that by removing the engine cover on new fabia's and roomster they were saving 4 euros on each car,4 freekin euros, the engine bay looks a whole mess without a cover in my opinion.

Indeed, and you know the say every penny counts same with weight, and that is true with both mass and cost of build as per 110ivan statement say 250,000 cars made that is 1 million euro's more for the company director to have in his paycheck, lmao.

It really is crazy, what makes me laugh is the excuses for not having one, more mpg, lighter, more bhp :D typical salesman dribble lol
