Electric Mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Just wanted to ask the experts out there to see if they can assist with a little query I have regarding the electric mirrors on my 2008 Octavia vRS.

Basically when I go to adjust the drivers door mirror with the little plastic stick on the drivers door I have discovered that the passenger side mirror moves in syncronisation with the one I am adjusting and they both move together!

If I change the stick to adjust only the passenger side then I have no issue and the mirror moves on its own without anything else moving. The problem seems to be with the drivers side.

Is this normal or should I get a dealer to have a look?

This is a setting in Maxidot. You can set the mirrors to behave as you describe or have them moving sererately. Can't remember exactly where the setting is but I think it's in convenience. :)

I found this annoying too, but apparently some people find it useful and it's the default setting. I turned it off in VAG-COM, but it might be Maxi-Dot controllable on later cars.

This is very useful if the car has multiple drivers as by changing both mirrors together it is often possible to only check the movement of one mirror and have the second one correctly aligned automatically. It's a clever idea, and provided you adjust the right mirror first you may never notice it at all...

I agree fully, it is a very useful feature. Procedure is to set the right mirror first then the left one. After that you should normally only need to adjust the right and the left will follow.

I find this is extremely useful, especially when there is bright sun from behind, which will affect through both mirrors. Dazzling easily solved. I have never had reason to find it annoying.

PS yet another example of RTFH?

Read the ............ handbook?

Why, or why do they bother printing them?

because unless you aware its a design feature, its easy to mistake for a fault
