Have you thought about a Re Map

Featured Replies

So when exactly do you feel the benefit from a remap? Is it an all round improvement or is it specific to a gear/rev range or when the turbo kicks in etc?

A 'decent' remap on the TFSI is terrific (you'll just have to take my word on it) and the best money you'll spend on your car without question ................ but be warned, it's very easy to get the modding bug and can become costly :o

Your best option if you're interested is to have a drive in one thats been done, I'm convinced you'll be converted ;)

Edit: You mentioned earlier about Bluefin and in answer to your query yes it is a remap but one thats downloaded to a handheld device which you can put on and off the car as many times as you like. Bluefin is a great product and ideal for those with no plans to go no further modifying their vehicle as it does have it's limitations when adding further performance components imo.

It's doing 50 km/h zones, still in 5th on cruise control with no whiff of complaint from the engine that I still find weird...

You get slightly more acceleration in 4th from 50mph as it sits the revs nearer the peak power output. The difference is you don't have to change gear to get acceptable acceleration.

I find that my 105 PD needs 2500 rpm before it starts to really pull and after 4000 rpm it's pretty much done, so quicker throttle response and more low end torque would sharpen things up a lot. I've driven some journeys without ever doing much over 2000 rpm when I'm feeling lazy or rolling in traffic, and I like that the engine will do that for me too...

The Revo map will take a 105 PD to 145 bhp according to their website... Which is nice :)...

A lot of the tuning companies say they'll remap your car and let you drive it for a while to see if you like it, then you pay your money or they convert it back...

Star Performance is quoting increase from 200 to 245bhp for £466.I have used jim before why would he advertise otherwise if real gains are around only 30 bhp.

Not possible, end of conversation.

I'll defy any remapping company to make claims like that for the TFSI and actually PROVE it, not one has done so yet and I don't think I'm going to be proved wrong with these guys either.

REVO claim 255bhp from stage 1. Yet i haven't seen anybody get anywhere near that. I certainley didnt. When i was at stage 1 i had a CBE and EVOMS and still only got 247bhp.

Highlight my signature look at my mods and you will see that even at stage 2 with all those mods im still only at 257bhp. Once i get a Turbo Down Pipe then i will propbably break the 260bhp barrier. But i will be going with Stage 2+ then so it will be nearer 280bhp

You just don't get anywhere near it im afraid. As i and Makefish said earlier you just don't get what they claim. You will get the torque (and probably more) you just don't get the BHP

If you cant get near his quoted figs.is that not false advertising.Jim does have a 4 wheel rolling road.Which im sure is calibrated.

Scotia. Many many companies make wild claims. They would just say it could be down to a number of reasons. I.E. No. of miles car covered, air filter could be dirty, bad fuel etc etc.

Tell you what if he can get 245bhp from a 197bhp car (which is what the MKII vRS is as its 200PS) WITH NO OTHER MODIFICATIONS then i will gladly eat my own pubic hair (of which i havent got much :D)

I have seen numerous cars on this forum and in the real world that have had JUST a remap (including my own) and you DO NOT get anymore than about 30 - 35 bhp.

As i said you will get the Torque (REVO quote 285lb/ft and i got 292lb/ft before other mods were added) you just do not get the BHP

REVO are probably the best VAG tuner IMO and they invest large sums of money into making their Software. I doubt Star Performance have suddenly found something that REVO haven't to get the extra 15 odd bhp

I'm sure 'Jim' is a very competent mechanic and has a good understanding of remapping but I'd take a wager with you now that he cannot prove an increase of 44bhp with just a reamap on a TFSI ......................... I'll eat a pizza with pubic hair clippings in it if he can :P

edit: I hasten to add that I aint having Mater's pubic hair on my pizza!

Good debate guys,i was going to go to "jim" but i will now need to rethink my outlay, does a piper cross panel filter count as a mod:Pas for the pizza whos pubes lol.

The filter will help it breath a bit easier but you'd be lucky to get more than about 0.005bhp increase from it :D

Makefish: Steve what's wrong with my pubic hair   :P

I'd let him off, if he hadn't been registered since April 2005 ;)

For those that are new to this forum it's only fair to tell you that this subject has been beaten to death on a number of occasions and if you can spare an hour or three then these threads are worth a read starting with the epic.............

i appreciate it has been done before,i was only having a point of view.as for new to the forum well spotted wardy:thumbup:

I'd be interested in a Bluefin remap (so its reversible) but I worry about the possibility of breaking my DSG (2.0 PD) owing to the extra torque.

Is this a realistic concern?

just a thought but if you increasing power by 20% surely the next thing is an uprated clutch and uprated brakes to cope with it?

Star Performance is quoting increase from 200 to 245bhp for £466.I have used jim before why would he advertise otherwise if real gains are around only 30 bhp.

where are they quoting the gains? on the road or flywheel? i doubt it as on the road as you will loose some as its transfered to the wheels.

No more so than as standard imo .........................so go buy and enjoy :P

I had a revo re-map on my Fabia vrs and the clutch went at about 41k mile(just after I'd sold it luckily) i had re-map done at around 22k mile.

I don't know how much the clutch(es) cost on a DSG but I wouldn't risk it.

Just my opinion though...

Anyone used index. remaps for 200 euros?

No and but that does sound pretty cheap. Go to someone that has happy customers :)

Steve

Jim does have a 4 wheel rolling road.Which im sure is calibrated.

Calibrated to what?! :rofl::o

As others have said; Ive never personally been to a rolling road day where anyone running a stage one remap got more than 35bhp increase over standard. I think the best Ive seen in terms of power gains (bit it was down on torque compared to mine) was actually a Forge remap! (I think Forge use one thats particulalry well renowned in the states but the name escapes me right now). Iirc I got around 25bhp from the REVO stage 1 but it pushed the torque up to just over 275lb/ft - this is what makes the difference on the road imo. When we did that I also then did a further power run with a performance panel filter; I gained 1bhp and 1lb/ft torque iirc.

The remap changed the car and as others have said - it's the best thing you can do to a standard car. A standard VRS felt so restrained to me after I did this to mine, it was unreal. Driven sensibly (which is harder to do once its remapped!) you should also see improved mpg.

thats not a problem as they do DSG specific maps you just have tophonr them up

Not any more they don't. I am sure if you ask them especially they will supply the old torque limited map but with some DSG boxes dealing with well in excess of 450NM there is little cause for concern. :)
