Maybe a stupid question?

Featured Replies

This maybe a stupid question, but unfortunately i don't know so i'm gonna ask:-

My car is a 56plate VRS fitted with factory Xenon headlights. The dipped beam is great and very white, but when i turn the main beam on i get a yellow off white light.I looked in the vehicle manual and saw that the main bean is fitted with H1 bulbs? whch to me is a standard bulb not xenons.

If this is the case can someone explain to me when xenons actually are, and are they only fitted to the dipped beam?

If this IS the case what would be the best upgrade bulbs for me to get? I have seen the following, but i dont know if they would give me the brightest white light?

They are:-

Osram Night Breaker

Osram Night Breaker H1 from Power Bulbs | Free Worldwide Delivery

Or

Philips Rally 100w

Philips Rally H1 100W from Power Bulbs | Free Worldwide Delivery

It says the Philips Rally can damage your plastic lenses and wiring due to the extra heat generated. Would this be the case or is it just a precautionary meassure?

Or can i buy a hid kit from ebay for my main beam, even though i though that's what xenons were and i thought i had them as factory option?

Or can someone advise any better lights?

Thanks

If you want to stay legal, the night breakers offer the whitiest light for H1 bulbs. BUT there is a downside, the night breakers wear very quick and dont last long.

Rather go for Philips Blue Vision, not as white but definately lasting longer.

A pity Philips doesnt have the X treme as H1. Comparable to the NB, but lasting longer.

If you only want to have light that looks more like Xenons, you could buy some MTEC super whites. Problem with these is, in rain you will see near nothing. (the beam is "swallowed" by the raindrops).

I would never use more than 55w bulbs, as the headlightclusters and reflectors are plastic.

With HID the problem is the warmup time they need to give their full potential.
