Nod32 V4.0.437 Business, truely awfull.

Featured Replies

At work we have rolled out Nod32 V4 to all the desktop machines, replacing Trend Officescan and it has to be the worst piece of AV software I have come across.

The software is difficult to manage through ERAS and version updates have to be push installed to all desktops and users need to reboot. The only thing that nod32 updates itself are virus definitions. Officescan was not like this, deploying software, program and definition updates automatically.

PCs randomly hang, crash, go slow and spontaneously reboot usually after a period of inactivity. They never did this before Nod32 was installed. Indeed uninstalling it and putting officescan back cures all the problems and normal service is resumed.

We find ourselves now removing Nod32 and reinstalling officescan as the users log constant fault calls with our call centre. Its so bad that we are considering pressing for a refund from the vendor and ditching it alltogether and get something else. Users can only take so much, and not losing critical work is important to us.

Always good when things like this happen isn't it?! Out of interest, how was the decision made to plump for NOD32? Was there a shortlist of other contenders?

Only one thing, Price. unfortunatly it seems you get what you pay for. I dont really play a part in the decision making process, only end up installing what they buy.

Stupid thing is, we tested it with a small selection of users before rolling it out and nobody complained. Installed it onto all 350 workstations and all *** breaks lose.

Oh dear. I get quite involved in these sorts of decisions as part of my role.

How many users tested it, and for how long? Certainly seems to be a good 'lessons learnt' exercise this one though, for when Management need convincing not to take the cheapest option, like they're usually all too keen to do

50 users for about 4 weeks, including us in the IT dept.

Quite strange that then, isn't it? That's what I'd term as a decent test group and testing period.

Did they way that the product was rolled out and installed differ between this test group and the final full roll-out?

No difference, Trend was remotely uninstalled using its management console before Nod was deployed using ERAS.

Looking at the official ESET forums a lot of people are unhappy with V4.

I use NOD32 with ERAS at work and I find it excellent.

Creating a package and deploying different configs, not to mention viewing individial configs on clients (and updating if needed) is a great feature.

Updating clients is so simply with the mirror and with a quick glance I can see all of the definition versions my clients are running.

Also the ability to view recent events / virus warnings on every machine in your business is very helpful.

Regarding pushing new packages out, I've found no really issues with it? (Infact you can use it to push out non eset products too) which is a bonus.

If you are using it with VISTA then shame on you. Vista in a production environment = a big no no from me.

Plus, did you test before deploying it to everyone? This should have flagged these issues and you could have investigated the actual issue...

As said earlier, we fully tested with a selected group of users and no problems were reported. Thats doesnt mean there were not any, they just didnt log them.

Trend officescan can do all the above that you mentioned regarding eras, with far greater ease of use. No need for push installs, the client server relationship deals with everything. Policy changes/software updates are applied instantly without deploying a single thing.

Had to remove another 10 today, at this rate they will all be uninstalled by the end of the week.

Someone will have their choice to explain to someone!
