looking for a good paint cleaner

Featured Replies

previous owner of my car must have left bird poo sit for very long time and there are a couple spots where the paint looks like ****

clay did not help at all ; i figured i'd use it just for the heck of it

what do you recommend ?

For an outright paint cleaner, Meguiar's Paint Cleaner is good.

If you're unlucky though, the acid from the droppings may well have gone through the clearcoat, which can result in the look you describe. Got any photos?

In that case, there's not much you can do, past a respray IMO.

Steve

If you're talking about bird etchings a paint cleaner probably won't sort it.

You may get away with something like Meg's ScratchX. If it really bothers you, you could always get a pro to wetsand and machine polish the affected area(s)

Any pics of the damage?

Bird muck...............oh oh.................that will more than likely have gone through the lacquer so unless your handy with a Rotary and some sand paper you won't be able to get the marks out.............

Pics would be good as requested above...........

Got the same problem all over my roof :shakehead

Phoned chips away and they said they could make it look better but not 100% and the cost would be £100

I figured my only option was a re-spray and that is going to be too costly. Am a bit annoyed that I didn't spot it before we bought it but hey ho. Wish there was a cheaper option I could have a go at. Looks awful in the light

Get some photos up and we can all have a look for you :)

Did they just quote over the phone?

As Wardy says I think someone needs to see it before they can make a decision on what to do.

So :+1: for some pics

Andy, yea he quoted over the phone. When the car is dry I will try and get a pic

From those pics it's in no way conclusive but it doesn't look like the work of our feathered friends...more like some sort of industrial fallout!?

What do the marks feel like when you run a finger over them compared to a 'clean' panel?...smooth? raised? tacky? rough etching?

If you're anywhere near Swindon I'd be more than happy to take a look for you:)

Hi Chris, I would say they feel smooth. Would you want a really close look at the marks?

Ok, possibly down to having clayed the car.

Well if you can get the camera to focus on them then a close up or two wouln't go amiss.

OMG!

That looks like it's been left at the side of a gravel pit at Silverstone!!

Be very interested to know what caused that...

Hows this? Its really difficult as all you get, is sky LOL

 yeah not the easiest panel to photo!

Considering you say they are smooth & they are small defects I'd say you could well get away with machine polishing the roof and maybe a lil wetsanding if they prove to be stubborn!.

Whereabouts are you based?

I am in Basingstoke. The whole car needs some TLC from the previous owner but I have never used a machine polisher

:eek:Hi no way bird gwano that a chemical splash is it only on the roof looks like someones done that nail varnish remover or similar

any shrub or trees above the car could be very small birds because no splash back sparrows or similar
