Hi Folks, this relates to a post I already have in the Vag-Com section whereby I have a DTC "18009 Relay for supply voltage terminal 30 (J317)inplausible signal P160-35-00" I have looked at the relays behind the drivers side of the dash but none have this number. Can anyone advise if the relay is somewhere else or what relay I should be looking at if not ine with J317 on it? Did a search but don't see much on relays, aslo looked the Hynes manual but believe it or not no pictures of where relays are and I am not great at reading wiring diagrams, car is an 05 VRS.

Got this fixed, no thanks to anyone on here as you will see above, sad this used to be such a friendly site a few years ago, maybe someone can explain why it doesn't seem to be so any more. I thought the point of all this was for lie minded enthusiasts to help each other out??

I would suggest either the post was overlooked, or nobody knew the answer to your request for help mate. I try to help when I can, but cannot know the answer to every technical problem, or even see every post.

Care to post the fix? :thumbup:

Thanks for your post, I am not criticising anyone individually and I appreciate what you say but I did try a few different sections and post headings over a period of weeks and I did get soem initially hopeful responses but if I gave additional info or asked another question it would all go dead again. I even got someone with a user name suggesting he was a master tech, he put on one post and disappeared. I have made the assumption in the past that perhaps the manufacturers don't like these people answering posts on technical matters so I PM'd him but he never responded and so i was left to fend for myself again. If I had for example been asking about a Mk4 Golf, I am sure it would have been much easier to get the information and I have found fantastic gems of info in the past on the likes of UKMKIVs.net and ClubTDI.com but Idon't think they know much about Fabias specifically, here is really the place.

Re your last question; Nah, not yet anyway!

My god. Does nobody know where the relays hide in a Fabia?

I want to replace the fuel pump relay and am bored of looking at threads asking where the relays are and none having an answer to the question as Faskoda has also found.

Some of us werent graced with a manual when we bought the car!!!!

I assume you eventually found where the relays were Faskoda?

I could really do with a share of your knowledge on the subject if you wouldnt mind. That is if you still use the forum.

Relays are above the central electrics control unit behind the trim by the drivers knee.

Positions of certain relays are car/model specific so would need to look it up in the relevant current flow diagram.

Today I tried to find the relays in my son's Fabia 16V Estate (03 Plate). Nightmare. We removed the cover from the fuse box (situated on the end of the dashboard between it and the driver's door; we opened and unclipped the small oddments box that reveals the data testing socket; we then removed the 3 most obvious screws from under the knee panel and began a tug-of-war to remove the panel. No good. Had to prize out the small trim panel that lies between the steering column and the speedo display unit revealing 2 more screws that were also removed. Much jostling and struggling at risk of breaking the plastic the whole lower panel came away by just enough to get a hand inside. All that was revealed was a host of plugs clipped into a box that presumably contained the relays. Around the edge of the box 3 clips could be seen that were released in the hope that the whole lot would drop down to expose removable relays. That is where the job stopped because there were other clips out of sight and out of reach and the relay box could not be dropped. The whole thing was reassembled and the car is now booked in to have a dealer fix the problem. What was the problem? The fuel pump continues to run after the ignition is switched off and liquid can be heard sloshing around in the tank. Since this happens when the car is left standing the battery is allowed to run flat and of course the car will not start. The temporary fix was to leave the fuse cover off and each time the vehicle is left to remove the fuse (F61 - 15A - Light Blue - 3rd Down on Left side of 15A fuses) and to replace it should the car need to be driven. SKODA - you should be ashamed of yourselves for this piece of idiotic design and construction. Good luck to others with apparent relay faults.

Part 2 of the saga of my son's Fabia relays: Wanting to avoid dealer charges we ordered a replacement relay intending to fit it ourselves. Doing it for the second time meant that the lower dash panel came apart easily and this time we disconnected the light switch, diagnostic socket and healight height switch plugs. The flat panel I thought might contain the relays was dropped down but it contained only a big circuit board but no relays. With the panel removed, however, it was now easier to see up inside and relay 404 was found tucked away behind a structural body flange. It was replaced with the new relay, things were loosely reassembled and the car started. After a warm up period and switching off the fuel pump could be heard running for around 10 seconds and it switched off as it should. After a short time that experiment was repeated only to find that the system was back in failure mode i.e. the pump still runs continuously. I seem to have read that there is another relay (Number 167) but cannot find it. Does it exist? Would a new one fix the problem? HELP PLEASE!

thanks for your contributions re. links to buying relays. I wondered though if you know where I might locate Relay 167 within the car and/or whether that is the right way to go because what I am thinking is that there must be a "Return Relay" somewhere and if so then it would be worthwhile trying to replace it. Thanks again.

Sorted. My son's car fixed today by Skoda main dealer. There is a second relay in Position Number 9 on the relay board. This one is known as the Fuel Feed Relay while the one marked "404" in Position Number 4 on the relay board is for the fuel pump itself. In this case it seems to be that the that the second relay had burned contacts and stayed closed sending power to the Pump Relay making it run on even though the ignition was turned off. I think but cannot prove that this might be something to do with pre-fuelling the injection system i.e turning the key would ordinarily energise the Fuel Feed Relay which tells the pump to start. Anyway, car now fixed but hope future readers find this info helpful. If only I'd known before ..... a relay about £15.00 .... Skoda diagnosis and repair £86.00 ... TUT. That said I do feel the Skoda dealer's price was fair for what was done.
