Morning All,

I've recently taken delivery of my company car which is an '09 Octavia II TDI Cr VRS in Black Magic. Its taken a little to get used to after my Mk I VRS but I've learnt to love it and to be fair, I probably love it even more than the old one!

I have absolutely no problems with it at all... except one. I'm embarassed by the hooter to the extent that I try not to use it even when I should because it sounds more like something from my old Pug 106. It's high pitch and more suited to a smaller car rather than a biggish estate.

I'm sorry if this seems a bit lame but does anyone know if you can change the pitch of the exiasting hooter or does it need replacing for something a little more manly?

It should be a dual tone horn, and not sound like a pug106 one. Mine is very loud and dual tone. Perhaps one of the 2 horns is not working.

Or it's a cost-cutting measure when the CR engine was introduced...

It should be dual tone and if it isn't just get it changed to a dual tone OEM one, which shouldn't cost much. Failing that you can always fit a compact air horn

My horns are too loud, to the point that I don't dare using it after 8pm. Does split a flow of pedestrians in two very nice, when need be.

I agree, I try not to use it at all because it is sooooo loud and scares pedestians.

Well, putting it in neutral and revving it doesn't work either, people get even more scared thinking somebody is accelerating into them. (I tried)

It's completely standard from the factory so I'll have a look and see if I can find it. It sounds as though it may be a loose wire or something.

IIRC the horns should be next to the fog lights in the front bumper.

Nope ... mine is a CR and actually has what I personally think is a rather impressive and up-market two-tone horn.

Now ... had you been blessed with this hooter I could understand your complaining!
