Tinted windows affect policy?

Featured Replies

Dan,

I'm currntly getting quotes for window tints for my Fabia and before i decide on who will do it, i was wondering if its likely to affect my premium?

I'm looking to go for a tint with added strength for extra security, and it won't be 'limo' dark, just slightly smoked for a subtle look.

Any info would be great please.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave

It is unlikely, but I'm more than happy to double check for you and get a call back arranged. Feel free to PM me your customer reference number/telephone number.

Update:

Dan arranged a call back, and i was informed that my premuims won't be affected by a 'cosmetic modification' and there will be no admin fees to add it to my policy.

Time to start finding a decent price for some tints...

Cheers Dan.

Thanks for letting us know.

It's certainly something I am considering in the future, although my policy runs out at the end of July, so I may be with a different company by then (unless the renewal quote from Flux is a good one)

Cheers

Damian.

Remember that this is AF's stance on tints.

Other insurers will judge this differently, and may load you up like the chav scroats in their Nova SRi's ;)

But if the tint takes you above the legal light limit of 30%, which can already be pretty close to standard smoked car glass, your car is illegal and so your insurance could be void.

UK Window Tints - Tinted window law

Interested to hear AF's take on this.

I had my Octavia windows tinted in 2004 just before the law was "reinforced" and Green Light advised me to remove the film forward of the B pillar.
