1.9 d pickup

Featured Replies

newbie hear, 3 probs with pickup, loud knock coming from front suspension when full lock on and then setting off, vibration coming from gear linkage i think, gearknob moves 6inchs side to side when in gear, drivers door wont lock any help appreciated thankyou shane:confused:

Is it one knock or a series of knocks?

One knock will be front suspension, a series will probably be a CV joint.

The gearknob will probably be a worn linkage.

thankyou for reply its one knock just as your moving with full lock on, its a vw caddy mk11, as you all know a skoda, i love it i have a AUDI S3 which is 6 weeks old i prefer driving the pickup so much character.

could be a slipping anti roll bar knocking.

the door lock is the little plate on the inside of the lock has bust a tab. you need to be a new lock and rob the plate off the back and put it on your original lock.

as for the gear stick, just get under it and wiggle the link to see were the play is, then re-fit the louse parts.

The one knock could be related to either the gearbox or engine mounting worn, and gear stick moving might also be related.

With engine running try putting engine it in 1st gear (with handbrake firmly on) and releasing clutch until it just bites, then release and repeat, this should result in the engine rocking whilst there is no forward motion of the car and may help identify the source of the noise .If possible get someone else to help look and identiffy where the knock is coming from whilst the engine is rocking.

Could also be lower swing arm bushes worn, or perhaps even a broken spring nestling in the strut, but that is less likely.

Good luck ;)
