Featured Replies

Nice car, and nice job so far, i have a 1.6gti that needs the same doing to it.........when is there ever time however!!!!

Where did you get the frame to tip the car from or is it custom built?

Have you seen any POR15, its a rust preventative and paint system, one of the other members suggested it in their mk2 rebuild thread, i bought some to paint my tt wishbones and subframe and its def the best stuff i have used so far.

Thanks, I picked up the spit from http://www.allertonclassics.co.uk/.

I have some POR15 in the garage but all removable parts from the underside have been powdercoated, wishbones, ARBs, Rear beam, hubs, brackets etc.

The underside will be getting a layer of zinc etch primer, and a layer of schutz with a protective colour over the top, probablyy POR15 for that.

yes if i was doing a full resto i would always powder coat as much as possible, but i was really impressed at the por15 that i used for the bits i have done recently!

How did you strip all the underseal off? i keep wondering if a portable sandblaster kit would be worth it........(if not a little messy)!

The underseal had a coat of waxoyl over the top of it too so that was taken off with Autosmart Tardis and the underseal itself gave up the fight fairly easily against a grinder with a knotted wire wheel attachment, it does make for a messy garage but after each session I just give it a dust down with HP Air.

Remember, you've got the mk.2 otteninger to put back together first :D
