They charged me £25 when I informed them I'd transferred my plate onto the Octy :(

I questioned the charge, as I know they don't charge for modification changes (within reason). The response was that this was a set charge and he couldn't do anything about it, and the change I was making was something I'd decided to do. I did ask how it was any different to deciding to fit a modification, for which they'd make no charge. I didn't get an answer to that one...

So just something to be aware of really, when looking at policies. I'm a bit annoyed at this, considering the good level of cover they offer, and their approach to modifications. It also has me questioning what exactly I've paid £25 for - a few minutes of someone's time to amend a database record and send out a document??

Think that's pretty much it steve.

£25 to update their systems, update the information passed out to other systems and send you some new paperwork.

An hour of a persons time which is probably all that it takes in total to make the DB change, print the new paperwork, pick it up, put it in an envelope, have it taken to the post room and then an amount to cover overheads probably isn't that far off £25 when you consider the cost of office space these days.

Still a :( though.

Except any insurance company worth it's salt, pushing out the number of documents you'd expect from a large company dealing with the public will have an automated printing and postage system.

Same happened with me last year when I got my private plate.

But as the guy said when I questioned it, its a lot less than the £80 the DVLA charge for doing even less!

I noticed in another thread that Adrian Flux don't charge, so its something to bear in mind when comparing policies.

Yes, I know it's quite a common practice, but I've never had to pay that in the past with companies I've been insured with. And as Andy says, AF don't charge. They were a bit more expensive for me this year though, so I suppose it all levels out.

I just find it rather inconsistent, when they make no charge for amending documents with modification changes.
