creaking from front left (not arb) and a metallic exhaust noise

Featured Replies

Ive got a creaking from my front left, it comes and goes, always does it over humps, and a rainy day/ wet road seems to silence it.

Ive had 2 garages check it, the first said some minute play in arb droplink the latest couldnt find anything wrong with arb or bushes (ive had the arb corrosion on another vrs so know what to look put for)

any ideas?

the other noise i thought was the exhaust centre mount but was told it was fine when it was checked, its a kind of metallic rattling when pulling away at about 1500 rpm mainly in 2nd, any ideas on this at all?

Hi, I had this when i got the car, just a creak over humps and bumps usually at slow speed..

It went when i had the cat back exhaust fitted, it wasnt quite as tight as the original in the center bracket.

When i had the turbo downpipe fitted it has come back as its tight again, Although its not as bad the original exhaust.

Hope this helps

Matt

Sounds like the arb bush needs a grease up.

I say this as when it's wet it stops.

grease, i will ask my mechanic guy (ex skoda tech) about that tomorrow, ill take him round morrisons carpark he will hear it creak then.

Dry bush I'd think. Don't ask me which one though; that can't be done long range.

rad mount, but that is generally more noticeable when shutting the door.

are there any heat shields on the vrs exhaust/under body of the car which could be rubbing?

I would say dry anti-roll bar bushes or top mounts.

And on the rattle; from what you have described I would take a look at the heatshield attached to the cat itself.

This is driving me mad, went round to my mechanic had a drive round with him and his helper listening at the various rattles.

its not the bushes we think as we lubed them and it made no differnce

if we rock the car by hand we can replicate the noise sometimes but can come from the front left wheel area or more central on the odd occasion, definetly a knock and not a creak, is very loud and get stares from people when going over humps, but even normal roads can set it off, he seemed to think possibly a body creak or something but hes only heard them from the back.

the exhaust noise is not the centremount and sounds like pinking, we are no closer to sorting that either

any more ideas? hes gonna go round the car next week again check all the usual check bolts etc.

Whatever it is, if you find out, please let us know. I have a very similar sounding problem. So far I've changed the arb bushes, wishbone bushes, arb drop links, rear frame bushes for well over £500 and it still makes the damn noise :)

I got a recuring knock somewhere.

I've changed everything, somethings even two or three times.

Mine now knocks when turning a low speed mostly coming off drive ways.

It also does it when on the downstroke of the shocks but not on the up now and then but it can only be heard when going slow(roadnoise cancellation I guess)

My car seems to enjoy destroying suspension bits i.e. bushes steering arms, and anything connected.

The only things I ain't changed are the drive shafts and ball joints(next on list lol).

I've even tried two steering racks (although one was an R32 upgrade done for pennys).

The strange thingabout mine is that when the car has been up on ramps it feels great for a few days then the noise comes back ????.

This isn't much help I know but belive me I feel your pain mate.

If it helps a replacement arb and bushes fixed it, theyve been udated to fix this issue apparently, though i have a different knocking now.
