Price of Secondhand eee PC 900

Featured Replies

oops, should be secondhand in the title not just second. I don't even have one yet.

How's this for £130?

ASUS EEE PC 900A

Intel Atom 1.6GHz Processor

1Gb DDR2 RAM

8Gb SSD Hard Drive

8.9" Display (1024x600)

Built in Speakers, Microphone and Web Cam

VGA Port

10/100Mbps Ethernet Port

3 x USB 2.0 Ports

Microphone Jack

Reasonable price? Support a XP install? Happily play video from the SDD or USB/SD memory?

Hmmm...you can get a 900A with 16 GB SSD for £190 on amazon.co.uk so maybe not a real bargain.

The 900A comes with either XP or Linux, so yes, a XP install shouldn't be a problem. Maybe this specific pc has got it already? In that case the price is not that bad.

Those who install XP themselves often choose an nlited version to save SSD space and RAM capacity.

Video shouldn't be a problem.

Its a 900A (if that makes a difference ) currently running a Xandros install.

Its for sale on work intranet don't have time/permission to be searching on the net for a value on it. Ebay is blocked for a start.

900A has a more modern processor (Atom instead of Celeron, hence the A), less power consumption = better battery life. If in good condition and comes with all parts (which is pc, AC adapter and restore DVD) maybe a reasonable price. Will check ebay uk for you and back in a mo.

EDIT: There are a few on ebay, e.g a 900 (not 900A) 8GB with XP, complete plus external CD-ROM unit, new battery. Starting bid £99.99, no bids yet, expires 13 June, in Chelmsford. Or a 900 12GB with XP, complete, starting at £70, no bids. expires 14 June, in Thurso (Highlands).

Thanks Swedish and thanks to the mod who corrected the title (Am I right in thinking Briskoda is not a forum that allows you to change thread titles yourself?)

The eeePC is boxed with all the bits and 5 months balance of the warranty and none of the hassle of ebay. If I get time I'll have a good look tonight. Any other opinions welcome :)

Seems decent for the money and that it's got warranty left. I'd probably buy it if it was offered to me at that price :)

Good/Fair condition one on ebay for £100, faulty one from £50 and a mint one bidding from £31, same spec but black.

:rubchin:

edit: Dell outlet doing same spec but XP install for £184

Well, I've seen this which is similar spec but higger SSD for £148: Dixons Tax Free

So I'm going to see about the price on the eeePC. There's no major problems with the Acers is there? Just similar but different.

I would say that it sums it up correctly. Good price at Dixon's, a question mark though for battery capacity. If vendor says 2.8 hrs it probably means just below 2 in practice, especially with wifi connected. Battery capacity has always been a weak spot with netbooks since low weight is also sought for, but my impression is that it has improved a lot only during the last year or so and most likely there are better alternatives in that respect.

Whether that's important or not for you depends, of course, on how you've planned to use it.

Oops. Should have just bought it on impulse as my procrastination has meant events have taken control and my (self-indulgent) pocket money must be spent elsewhere. If the opportunity arises again, it would seem the Asus is the better option for me.
