Performance modifications to the throttle body

Featured Replies

Can i just buy your engine Des :D

Will swap it for my engine and a set of cams. :D

What would you suggest for the 350bhp mark?

Obviously Pistons and Rods would be uprated at that time.

Garry

Nowing the way you drive and who else would be in the car with you, I would suggest the IHI route. Low down power with lots of reliability and standard drivability. It's not going to set the world on fire tho. Do the pistons and rods and let Jabba do the rest.

I don't know where to start with this thread. :rotz:

Andrew, don't mess with the TB!

Everyone else, GT's are agro. If you are not prepared for a load of heart ache, leave well alone.

........no one is going to listen soooooo.........good luck cos you are going to need it.

ok then des i wont touch the throttle body. but i thought you had done yours, well so ive been told. can i ask why not as well?

completely agree, putting a GT?? on the octy as a massive pain in the rs so dont bother. i cant sress it enough, i really really wish i hadnt!!!!!

that sounds like a much better setup. probably what i should have done.

maybe with meth or nos and water injection for a laugh like though!!!!!!

i agree with you des. deffinately go to jabba for it though garry.

Des are you running a WMI kit?

Remember i give you a PM about TT front set up,can you PM me the link if you still have it.

My TB is still standard, I don't know what else you want me to say.............sorry, i painted it. :o

I didn't say don't bother. If you want realy big power from a 1.8T then the GT route is a good one but there is a price to pay.

This is going to sound harsh but the problem with you mate is you just cannot leave things alone. The last owner of your car put 100k on it with very little in the way of problems, even in a high state of tune. When the car was sold to you in perfect working order, you managed to **** it up in a very short space of time with your tinkering, unbelievable!!

When you asked my advice on going for more power you were having none of it and now look where you are. You were even warned about the time and ag you were letting yourself in for but you still went ahead. I'm sorry but...............I'm wasting my time typing this out.

 I rest my case.

No WMI kit for me........the last thing I need is more power.

Didn't the TT front end turn out to be a rear end?

The pic was but i rang them and it is front end set up.;)

They do have more than 1.

what i thought was a reliable source obviously is not as relaible as i thought iam sorry for asking and beleiving him.

very shortly after getting the said perfect working car the exhaust manifold cracked hence going down this big turbo route on an engine that had already been strengthened to see what it was like. having now put up with the ag and the time and cost of it i wish i hadnt gone down this route. iam considering getting rid of the ducking thing!!! but it owes me 2 much now so i just want the unreliable piece of crap back from a 3 day job that my tinkering has ballsed up without any help form any body else. i ducked the whole thing up single handedly.

what I thought was a reliable source obviously is not as reliable as I thought iam sorry for asking and believing him.

I find it very difficult to understand why you are in complete and utter denial of your tinkering. There is nothing wrong with your source as you put it, it's you that is the problem. Your car gets set up for you, you change the crap out of it, it all goes wrong, you blame everyone for your mistakes.

Umm, I wonder why that was. Oh I remember more tinkering.

hence going down this big turbo route on an engine that had already been strengthened to see what it was like.

Against all the advice that was given to you, taking into account the way you drive and your tinkering (not that that would have stopped you).

It wouldn't be so unreliable if you would only leave it alone. Look at this thread, it's a prime example. Your car is in bits as it fEcked yet again, you are moaning as it's taking so long to sort, you are going through all this pain and what are you thinking of doing? Buggering up a perfectly good TB and you haven't even got the car back yet, it beggars belief. I'm laughing my nuts off but it's not funny any more.

The problem now is certain people are reluctant to help you or advice you further as they know full well that is going to happen. They feel that it's just a waste of time and effort. I'm really sorry to be so blunt but you need to hear this for your own good. This whole big power trip is a money pit that just spirals out of control, one thing just leads to another. You are just not in a position to keep doing this, especially as it's your daily ride.

but if you havent mapped it for the mods surely you would have been having some serious fueling issues?????

p.s what suspension mods have you done???

chucked conrod on 261 bhp 211 lb?? seems odd

its runs a bit rich but nothing major. suspension wise i got powerflex bushes on the front and eibach coilover kit

Agreed, with the minor issue of oil consumption so far as mine is concerned, but that's the engine not the turbo..., although i wouldn't exactly describe mine as mild.

May look into the IHI Route.

Really had my heart set on a GT but guess i need to drive both first then make my mind up :)

Garry

in response to original question, if you still have the standard inlet, changes to the TB will make minimal difference.

As an indication, we run a TT race car with essentially a standard small-port BAM engine, standard small port inlet and TB - we make 340bhp @1.4bar on a GT3071R,
