Sitting at a junction behind a van and a coach cut the corner and could not make the turn. The van in front reversed, I pressed the horn but it was too late...crunch. I could not reverse as there was another car behind. It was only at low speed. I would not mind but there was a big gap between me and him, oh well. Would there be any underlying damage? It popped out the lower grill, two side grills, smased the number plate and holder and marked the bumper. It did not sound as if it hit the crash bar. Pics of the minor damage below. It was only the step of the van that hit in the middle.

Had exactly the same happen to me in a previous car, no damage was found, but to be on the safe side get it looked at by a pro.

In my experience bumpers do a great job (they are designed to take these sorts of impacts without damaging the chassis/underlying structure, unless you have hit something pretty hard.

I have had the car looked at and it is fine except for a tiny blemish on the bumper, cracked number plate and plate holder. He said he would pay but I have looked up his company on the internet and it looks as if he has given me an old business card, as both phones keep ringing out and its different on Yell.com. Where can I get information about the registered address of his vehicle? Luckily it’s only a small amount of money, but this person is taking the p*ss.

Check the undertray and front wheel liners (where they fasten to the undertray) have not been damaged (broken).

Also the very bottom of the rear (aluminium) radiator which protudes below the front radiator may have been damaged as the lower bumper edge can hit this.

Also there is a vertical plastic shroud on the right hand side between the front radiator and bumper which in my experience can break when the bumper is pushed back.

It is all ok, checked those areas. Got my new plates and number plate holders. Just need to get the bloke to pay for them.
