vRS: Petrol treatments/injector cleaners, etc.?

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

Having seen a significant improvement in the performance of my vRS following a throttle body clean, I'm now wondering whether I can gain in other areas without having to get my hands too dirty. Specifically, I'm wondering about using some of the various additives/cleaners, such as STP Fuel Injector Cleaner or Wynns' equivalent.

Does anyone use these and has it been worthwhile? Car is running well, but I'm wondering if it might run just that bit better still.

Also, anyone used the RedEx one shot additive? Any good?

Thanks,

John

ive used redex a couple of times its improved mpg slightly and response slightly imho. those who claim big improvements are probably suffer placebo effects, althrough my last car had a bottle of it in every other month and it loved it.

I used the red ex stuff in mine as std and didnt really notice a diff. Used it with my Upsolute map and it seemed to like it too. also the Wynns one was good. did make the responce better. Now I have the RStuning map She hates the stuff. so I jus use V Power for the best performance, Tesco 99 for cheap performance and Sainsburys 97 for eco and cheapness(2-3mpg more with this fuel). They seem to keep everything good.

iirc the V Power has cleaners in it so no need for the redex lol

Make sure the oil is changed regularly, stick a K&N or Green panel filter in it, also might be worth dropping the intercooler off and rinsing that out too as a lot of oil builds up in the boost pipework. You can also do the pikey mod where you put silicon dielectric grease on the MAF sensor multiplug, but I'm not sure if that does really benefit the 1.8T engine or whether it's more successful on the TDi's.

I've not used any injection cleaners on mine but did once put a bottle of the orange octane booster in it which was a laugh
