Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI CR 110 - Road Test First Drive - Autocar.co.uk

another good little write up on autocar for the 2wd 110 tdi:)

Yeah, less keen on the 110TDI but still like the car.

Car Magazine have their first review too, sadly they seem to have been to the Top Gear school of journalism. Shame, they used to be a serious mag!:

The hill descent in neutral, even with a stalled engine sounds good though!

I like it and I think it will sell , Its a rival for the Subaru Forrester and probably going to be cheaper to run than one of those.

Question for those who know more about these things than I do (just about everyone!).

I have a 2007 Octavia vRS TDi and am often disappointed by the amount of grip while pulling away in the wet out of T-Junctions or away from the lights etc. Would this Haldex equipped system kick in under these circumstances, or is it really only designed to enhance grip on muddy fields etc?

A 170 CR TDi Yeti would be interesting if the answer to the above is yes!

Cheers,

Dave.

Dave - thats a perfect example of when Haldex would offer a true benefit. Haldex will send power to the rear axel instantly upon detecting slip from the front tyres. Its an excellent system imo

In the meantime a WALK (Whiteline Anti Lift Kit) fitted to your vRS will improve matters.

However this is one of the reasons I'm thinking of a Yeti to replace my vRS TDI, apart from the higher seating position.

From my experience with both my current Golf and a previous Octavia 4x4 Turbo hatch, I have had no wheel spin problems when pulling away; the rear just cuts in when the front tries to lift without you really noticing its happened.

One further point of note; the Golf obviously with its low sport suspension, is much better at making swift cross country progress than the Octavia with its raised ride height. So I would imagine this to be similar for the Yeti albeit it has a much improved setup to the early Octavia.

So now we wait to see what the Yeti vRS (because that's what I'm calling it ;) ) will be priced at!

I was going to quote that, but my vRS is pretty good fun to drive, so I thought that comment was a bit unnecessary

like wise even my little beast, is a cracker to drive. Love caning it around my local countryside roads :P

I have to say Im really impressed by the vehicle overall - it seems to tick a lot of boxes for me as the family vehicle.

I'd certainly be going for a 4wd model as (already mentioned above) the haldex system in my mind is superb. I miss the traction my last Octavia (Mk1 4x4 Turbo) used to give me. Whether it was rain or shine it would grip and never loose traction and it didnt bring with it the emissions and mpg costs that a full time 4wd system gives you.

As for the name - brilliant also imo - the kids would instantly take to it simply for the name. Its not aimed at the serious offroad enthusiast or even the WAG brigade :rotz: its aimed as a practical, modern mode of transport for carrying the family safely around (imo)

I metntione din passing top my kids that my next car might be a Yeti. They love the name and have already told their firends thats what we're having.

Hopefully the pricing will be right so they won't be disappointed.
