Favorit - Do I need a new mirror?

Featured Replies

I parked up at my mates and folded in my mirrors

Drivers side unfolded fine, but the passener side is now loose and doesn't clip into position.

Will I need a new mirror?

I'll take it off and see later. Not the best of things to happen this week!!

I think some are designed to fold, and others aren't. I had a replacement on my Favorit once, and I could not get it to fold in easily, I didn't dare force it! So one folded and the other didn't! You may have broken part of it and need a replacement. You might be able to find one at a scrap yard, I think Felicia ones fit too - but that would mean replacing both.

The Favorit ones do fold in but the movement isn't as firm now.

I'll take the mirror off tonight seeing as my cars at home now.

Passenger side mirror is not needed for mot. I believe they are meant to fold in but seize up. I managed to encourage one to fold in with some wd40 liberally sprayed in the mechanism but couldn't get the drivers side to and seems like it will snap off if I apply pressure. The main problem with the fav mirrors is the black paint likes to flake off.

This is the problem I had with mine. I took mine off and sprayed them, its not too difficult to remove them (start from within the car by taking the screw and rubber off the mirror adjustment).

How do you take it off?

I took the rubber off undid 2 screws and the spring seems to hold it on.

The big thing under the rubber bit unscrews with pliers and i recall 3 screws with the lowest always proving difficult to undo.

B**locks

I got the mirror and it seemed like a straight forward fit.

Taking the old one off.....one screw fine, 2 crews fine the third most bottom screw? was wedged on tight and it rounded the damned head

I think theres an attachment I can get to dig into the bolt and get it off or I think what some people do here is drill it out?

Dammit!!!

More fun plus games and powertools!!!!

I found reversing close to a tree trunk was an excellant method for detaching the Favorits passenger door mirror :)

Why is it always the last one? If it was the first you'd think "this is going to be trouble, I'll leave it.." Instead it always seems to be that you have everything hanging in pieces when the last screw turns off.

At least you've not dropped anything inside the door. That's my usual trick.:)

Mine seized up, and so snapped off when parking optimistically close to a post. Superglue worked fine for me though!

Gonna try that JML tool

the Screw Extractor

As above its always the last blasted screw! Hope you get it sorted, that link looks good

I got the mirror changed!!!

Although the tool didnt quite work as I expected..........

I stuck the bit into the drill, and then tried screwing the thing out.

what it actually did was bore into the screw!

How did I get it off?

Eventually it just bored in and "decapitated" the offending screw head and I could take the mirror off and screw on the new one.

So it worked for me!! LOL

Pleased you got it sorted.
